New to the Board? Speak Up

If you're new here, this message is for you.

We get so many people signing up here on a weekly basis, but we really hear from so few of you, which is a shame.

Speaking from experience, the only way to get to know the crowd here is to jump in and start talking.

So maybe you could start off by answering the following questions:

    1. What do you do in the adult business?
    2. Why did you join GWW?
    3. What's the biggest challenge facing you right now?
    4. What's your favourite site?
    5. What's your favourite affiliate program and why?

And again, speaking from experience, don't be afraid to just jump in and ask a question, or even private message someone if you're shy. I have never met a more helpful and friendly group of people as they men and women on this board. The people here have always gone above and beyond the call to help me out when I ask.

I hope to hear from some of you real soon.

    Cheers

Interesting way to get posts. Nice.

    1. What do you do in the adult business?
Sell original works of gay fiction in PDF and accept submissions from other authors.

    2. Why did you join GWW?
To get a gay perspective that is truly gay.

    3. What's the biggest challenge facing you right now?
That's a tough one really, i suppose the greatest challenge is to make a site that is informative, lucrative, but also fun.

Just trying to survive amidst all the changes and hypocrasy that exists but at the same time trying to not just make money but make it in a ethical sense.

    4. What's your favourite site?
Don't really have one, there just isn't enough time to surf that much but I'd say for information this forum and AWH keep me occuppied.

    5. What's your favourite affiliate program and why?
TLA as it provides me with good customer support, it is an easy site to get links to products and has a good selection.

Too many affiliates offer you the old staid banner and limited content links but few make it easy for you to link directly to specific products.

Even some paysites make it hard for a webmaster to take their free content and link to it in a way that suits their own website layout.

They also provide limited SEO information in regards to keywords being used or even information on how to simply check your stats. TLA for me makes it easy.

You do realize by 'gay' I mean a man who has sex with other men?

Hi GayStoryMan --- thanks for posting. Well since you mention TLAvideo, I would like to know what others on here think about the following --
I use TLAvideo on my porn site extensively. I have also found their customer support great and the site looks very professional. They pay promptly. BUT....

I have one beef with them that just needles me. (unless they changed their policy and never notified us) You only get a commission if you send someone to their site, and they immediately make a purchase. Typically, if affiliates refer a person to a site, the referral gets a cookie placed in their browser for 7, 30, 60 days, etc. so if they return to the site later you still get credit for their purchases. TLAvideo's no-cookie / no-commission policy is very detrimental to affiliates.

Then, they ask us to run their "Pod" billboards which nicely brand their "TLA" name into the eyes of people. Well why should I essentially give them free image advertising? They refuse to pay us for this?

And then we send them new customers, and they sign up those referrals for their newsletters. We don't get any credit for sales that come about through this method either. That also is crummy.

Don't compete with your own affiliates - they are marketing for your company too.

Re: New to the Board? Speak Up

    OK -- here's me . . .

    1. What do you do in the adult business?
Write, write, write -- usually steamy Gay fiction. I'm also the ringmaster for the Gay Pen Web Ring, a service for Gay authors. Thus, I'm the guy that maintains our Gay Empire Library.
    2. Why did you join GWW?
I got the short straw! (he- he! just a little humor) Actually, I'm also sorta the administrative left hand/pr man for the guys and they said 'do it', so I did. And, may I say, I've enjoyed and learned from the experience.
    3. What's the biggest challenge facing you right now?
Same as every day. Getting up in the morning and heading out to tell some more suits "That's not the efficient way to do it". And, more specific, finding time to do what I really love -- Gay porn.
    4. What's your favourite site?
Anything from Bare Buxxx or Big Cash Society
    5. What's your favourite affiliate program and why?
Personally -- see answer to #4. Professionally -- Software Pays (cause every guy who goes 'gay -- not me' or 'hope she/he doesn't find out' wants to cover their tracks)

    Thanks for the posts, guys.

It's interesting that a couple of you posting here are heavily into writing. I write a lot of copy for my sites. It's what drags the search engines in and I'm hearing that my copy is kind of hot. I always think it could be better, but then that's me. And I certainly don't spend as much time on it as I should or would like to.

I used to write freelance for a couple of gay newspapers: features, articles, reviews, opinion pieces, etc. I tried writing some short stories at one time, but it's just not my thing. When it comes to fiction, I don't hesitate to say, "I suck."

Anyone else new out there have something to say?

Thanks again guys, it's always nice to learn something new about people.

    Cheers
