    Looking for info on laws

I have a gay members dating site I am interested to find out about some of the laws. I see sites like Tube8 and it seems to me that anyone can type in gay sex into a search engine and get clips of gays men having sex, but membership site are differennt they only show advertising to there members, is there a reason. does it matter if a visitor has access to a link to purchase porn?
    Thanks Derek

Membership sites only have advertising inside the site so that any of their affiliates don't lose sales if the affiliate sent traffic ends up clicking to go off to another website instead of joining the one they were sent to originally. It's called having a "leak free" tour.

thanks for the info I appreciate it. But its not illegal to have the ads viewable by visitors, just don't want to get into trouble.

I'm not really clear on what sort of law information you are wanting. If you are in the United States, there is a 18 USC 2257 law that dictates what sort of information we are supposed to have on file regarding models, their id's, age verification etc. As to actually showing a pornographic advertisement on sites that YOU personally own, there's no law against it. Just be sure it's a LEGAL sex ad (as in no ***********, childp0*N, and so forth)

You will also see a lot of sites using a "warning page". This is also not required by law, but something a lot of webmasters put up as a "hey, I warned that kid not to go in there!" defense stance.

I do recommend that you put the http://RTALabel.com meta tag on your site pages. (it goes on the code view above the </header> tag.) It does work to keep kids off your site where parents have parental control software in effect at the home.

If you are trying to show ads with your affiliate code for some mainstream stuff on your pornographic website, then yes, you'll probably run into trouble, so be sure to read their TOS (terms of service). For instance, most of the product sponsors available on Commission Junction don't allow you to advertise them on sites containing porn.

And as a GWW disclaimer: we are not the ones to give you legal advice. To be sure you are in legal compliance with any Adult website, get a lawyer who is savvy in adult law.

Basically I have ads from different gay porn sites in order to make money promoting their sites but right now I have the ads in a forum that only members have access to, I have a page with short 1 and 2 minute video clips that promote the sites and was creating a porn blog with pics all of which I have set so that only members have access to but I don't feel that i am getting the traffic hits that I would like that way. Why join my site to see clips and pics they could see on 8tube with out joining? I personally don't create or sell any pornography just advertise. So do I have to keep that in member areas or can anybody view it as a visitor to the site?

If I am reading everything correctly, you're an affiliate webmaster running a blog where you have put your content so that only surfers that join your site can actually see your posts.

If you remove the signup requirement, you'd be pretty much doing what 99% of the rest of us are doing who do blogs to promote various sponsors. Most of the webmasters I know aren't requiring people to sign up unless they are hosting full videos and/or wanting a membership fee.

To try and comply with the 2257 I've seen some webmasters add the 2257 number below the end of their post and then they link it to the sponsor's 2257 page. This is purely an observation/suggestion, and not to be taken as solid legal advice.

:toff: Again, ask a first amendment lawyer who is Adult law savvy.

No thanks that's what I needed to know. My site has the ability to allow members to set up their own blog or to link a blog through my system and I am considering opening up that feature to others would that make a difference? I did add the http://RTALabel.com meta tag to the header site, thanks for the info on that, and I can create another page to add the 2257 info, that's not a problem. trying to work out some kinks in the blog system right now. I read the Adult blogging tip and will probably be asking more questions on that later. I am currently using google to advertise my site are there better ways to advertise?

Well, for starters, how about putting up a link so I can see the domain and then I can offer some marketing options.

Umm, that isn't a blog, it's a forum. And I really don't know where you can list forums. Perhaps you could do a g**gle search for some gay link dump sites and get on some of those, that'd give you some free inbound links at least.
