Are other file sharing sites getting the message? Looks like it...

    From another board:

Fileserve removed it's affiliate page as of few minutes ago, because USA/FBI thinks that a legal part of their TOS is not enough to protect them, where users are responsible for their own content, and not filehost itself. Also, their thread disappeared from WJunction.

Who's next on FBI most wanted filehost list? Why all this, when SOPA/PIPA loose their support? All these could be done way back, if that is even legitimate, and by law. Smells fishy...
    Interesting.

I've always thought that they also need to go after the affiliates of the file lockers.

The affiliates have too much incentive to pirate content and link to it from forums if they're getting paid for every membership sold to the file locker.

I'd be happy to see the feds start rolling over on the affiliates who are just as much a pirate as the site itself.

This action is a follow up to the megaupload shutdown I mentioned here: http://forums.gaywidewebmasters.com/...ad.php?t=38546

its about time, those file sharing sites are 99% illegal content and they have been getting away with charging memberships for "premium" downloads for years. As if they don't know whats going on!!!

    This is interesting too:

"Shares of Cogent Communications Group Inc slumped 23 percent after the U.S. government shut down one of its customers and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) searched its offices."

"Megaupload paid Cogent an average of $1 million per month according to the indictment ... as a result, first-quarter revenue could decline sequentially,"

    And another one...

"MegaUpload was a big customer at Leaseweb. They leased 630 servers, 60 of which have now been shut down. Leaseweb was raking in millions thanks to this single customer"

from http://vrritti.com/2012/01/20/leasew...ut-megaupload/ with links to the original Dutch articles.

    630 server on Leaseweb?
I had 2 servers on Leaseweb some months ago ;-) now on nationalnet USA.

this is a big waste of money for Leaseweb, this company is big, but 630 servers is a very high quantity of $$$ monthly

That's funny because the day MegaUpload shut down somebody mentioned shorting cogent at the opening bell. I wonder if they took their own advice?

Here's Kim Dotcom's house. If you used to make a lot more money and wonder where it went... here's one place:

Edit: Apparently he is only leasing it:

Dotcom leased the property after being blocked from buying it last year by the government after failing to meet a "good character" test for migrants, although he was granted residency in 2010.

Still, I can't even begin to imagine what the rental rate on that place was.

There is talk that Oron will be doing the same thing.

I hope they all retreat to the hills and stay there...

If Kim Dotcom doesn't get extradited or only gets a slap on the wrist, it'll probably end up being business as usual soon. If the charges stick to him, I think we'll see a big slowdown...

    Hoping for the best!

i just read this list of affected file sharing hosts:
    - VideoBB.com also closed their affiliate system.
    - FilePost.com has started to disable users accounts.
    - Uploading.to has blocked access to all users living in the United States
    - Videozer.com has closed their affiliate system
    - FileSonic.com has closed their affiliate system
    - Filesonic has now completely disabled it’s sharing function.

Looks like these guys are all scared and rightfully so. My only question, WHY OH WHY did this take so long to do???

What percentage of stolen porn do you think those cyberlockers might account for? Apparently overall cyberlockers make up 5% of the global bandwidth and have nearly as many unique visitors (93m) as the entire US newspaper industry (110m).

Looks like Anonymous is fighting back now with his own filesharing locker site anonyupload.com...wonder how long it will take for that one to open & then get closed!
