    Dreamweaver for CSS, AJAX

I feel like a big boy - I just bought the Adobe $20/month license to Dreamweaver.

It's been a year since Lion broke my Adobe CS, and I had to go look for free equivalents, because the little I use any of the Adobe Apps, just prevents me from even thinking about $1500 to get back on.

I have enjoyed using my free PHP editor, but I need to get up to speed with CSS and AJAX stuff, so i got the $20 Dreamweaver license. Not that I haven't used CSS styes for several years now, but I want to start doing bigger and better things than just changing the color and underlining of links.

And avoiding style sheet conflicts when I try to do more than one CSS/AJAX thing on a page.

What are some good CSS/AJAX script repositories? Where we can get scripts that do specific things - like shopping carts, product catalogs, accordion collapse, floating windows...

I've got some bits and pieces, but I really should get to a bigger selection.

Has Ajax and some references to CSS
HotScripts Usually first place I go for a decent script -- not always free.
Free Ajax Scripts Not seeing 2012 submissions but a lot of the basics can be found here.
W3Schools for css tutorials and reference

I know CSS isn't brand new 2012, but I was busy in 2010-2012 writing PHP to manage my catalog - front end and back end.

But, by now, the bugs should be out of those Hot Scripts uploaded in 2011.

I did get a div to float, which is step one with my AJAX floating shopping cart. But when I tried to add accordion to the same page, the accordion wouldn't work. That's when I decided to get DW to help resolve conflicts between multiple CSS stylesheets.

What a difference a day makes! Last weekend, searches on scripts yielded the same old couple of pages of junk.

Yesterday, the top one was new - and a winner!

An AJAX shopping cart, that has a customizable checkout page - so I could adapt it and the hidden variables for CCBill and DHD/CommerceGate. And I even can if I want to do PayPal.

And, it plays nicely with my floating div, so it is always in the upper left hand corner of the screen, wherever on the page the customer is.

I want to add a "Chat with me on Facebook" button, but the FaceBook answer is way too complicated and involved.

Has anyone else added FaceBook live chat?

I used to have Yahoo live chat on my sites, but I think I deleted it. When I put the current Yahoo Pingbox on my page, it didn't recognize that I was logged in. Maybe that doesn't work if both are open on the same machine, same browser? It used to.

After dinner, I'll go look up old versions of my site(s), when I used Yahoo live chat. maybe that's all been done away with.

This is my first test of my AJAX shopping cart in a floating div window.

Next, I need to add it - and try to do more CSS style - to my full-featured, multi-page catalog site

Learning more and more about JS and AJAX and CSS is hand-in-hand with the JSON needed for my App that I wrote. It gives me ideas, and helps me understand both.

There's never a quiet day. Half-way into working on the shopping cart today, I learn that my paperback photo books (on Amazon) will now be available in the UK and EU! Not that either sales area is flush with cash, but it does open up my photo books now to that class of photo buyers and collectors, with local UK/EU shipping.

I had to turn my attention to that for a while, fiddling with a XLS spreadsheet enabling UK EU sales for my 311 photo book titles on Amazon.

I got it done, so happy.

    http://www.gay-dvds-for-women-and-men.com/

Looks good on my iPad as well.

The one thing I was not able to get over: In PHP it is nice to be able to use session variables and using multiple pages. With this css and AJAX, was not able to get session_register to stick.

So I have a LOT of form buttons, because $_POST does work.!

Adobe CS is wonderful development environment to use and what you can't do with it out of the box you can prob find an extension to add the feature(s). Well, you can if you have Adobe Extension Manager. It's pretty much all I've used for prob the last 7-8 years now. (I also use Coda and BBEdit daily for quick tasks.)

If you do have Adobe Extension Manager you should check out these sites. Loads of great add-ons to speed up dev time.

http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/exchang...xc=3&loc=en_us (Has some great free jquery extensions)

BTW, I don't want to rain on your parade, but I am looking at your site and you have some html problems. You're calling JS/CSS files outside the html header area and look to have a lot of open and miss-matched tags.

p.s. I wouldn't use the Adobe Spry libary that comes built-in DW. It can be slow on high traffic sites. I've found that jQuery was much faster.
You'll get more with a kind word and a 2 by 4 then you'll get with just a kind word.

I got http://www.NickBaerGallery.com and http://www.gay-dvds-for-women-and-men.com on the new AJAX shopping cart.

Gone are ?var= links, because $_GET isn't working anymore... everything is $_POST, with submit button forms.

So if that wasn't enough fun, I also backed up my DB (all 155 tables) and moved it to a new server (same host), for hopefully smoother performance.

Another day, I will continue work on the CSS aspects. To get it working, I still did a lot of old html tables.
