Is there any catch to this? Can they be moved somewhere else after a year?

Move them anywhere you like. It's a legit special they run numerous times during the year, with different codes. You just have to pay with a credit card, as they won't accept paypal for these deals. You will also be limited to ONE 99 cent purchase per account.

Oh ...and if you want more new domains ... I used cjc599V the other day and you pay 5.99 before ICan fee is applied.

Thanks for the info everyone! Their shopping cart doesn't seem to be working at the moment. At least not in Opera or Chrome and I can't be bothered to do it all again in a third browser. I've sent them a message and will try again a bit later.

Lowest price code that works ( I used it this morning actually) that I have found for renewals is GDBBREN8 = $8.67 total. That's a discount of $4.50 per renewal.

It's pretty cool that they have discounts for renewals too. I got a reply. They advise me to empty my cache or use Firefox!

I don't know about you guys but domain names are like potato chips to me. Once I have one I just can't stop.

Hahhahaa ... sounds like you need to join our Domains Anonymous support group! I've actually been doing very good about not loading up on domains every month, and have actually let a bunch expire over the past year or so. I'm down to like 140, with less than 50 that still aren't live with some sort of sales content. That's my summer project, putting those idle domains to work!!

Seriously, stop and think if you have the time to develop that tempting domain name within a week of purchasing it. If not, pass on it. More domains are always expiring and you can usually find a nice one for any niche.

The catch is you're buying from a company where the CEO slaughters Elephants in Africa and films his joyous killing of an animal for sport, providing entertainment for thousands of other arrogant wealthy men who think the entire planet is here for their personal entertainment.

OMG that is TERRIBLE! That's probably the WORST thing on the planet that anyone can do (except supporting SOPA that is!)
So make sure you always boycott ANY company doing bad things like what has been pointed out in the post I quoted.). Then and only then can you sleep with a clear conscience at night!

Well I picked up one 99 cent domain from GD yesterday and as I said, whenever I start thinking about domains to buy I usually come up with a bunch of others I like, but I showed some restraint this time and only bought two more... but from NameCheap, not GD. Back during the SOPA thing I had decided to switch all my domains over to Namecheap since I didn't like the way GD handled that situation. But what can I say... when GD offers these cutrate deals I cave and end up giving them more business. I'm so ashamed.

By the way, the 99 cent offer expires after 10,000 domains are sold or June 15th, whichever comes first.

And Bec, you're right about the reason for buying a domain. Now I only buy names for unique niches I have an interest in and know I can write at least 20 or 30 posts to get it going.
