Another Movie Question - DVD Covers

Just wondered what you folks thought about the covers used on DVDs / VHS boxes?

Should they have simple designs using only a few images of each model that appears on the movie itself or should there be a more complex mixture for example..

Which would appeal to you more in a video store?

it better shows the content
scenes and so on
i think people will better buy dvd where they can preview on cover what can be inside

most companies seem to put one big pic on the front, the main star perhaps, and then a montage on the back showing all the scenes...

Ya know, it all depends on the type movie and the target buyer.

Some simple, covers do well, but normally mean the movie is a cheaper film. The more "complex" covers normally show to the eye that the movie is a little more upscale.

I personally do like most of the covers that I see on most of the videos, but they sell. I like something that looks arty, but still hot. Like Jefferson's work over at ChiChi. He is really brilliant with his covers. They are hot, sell, and still have an artist flair to them.

Not sure why, but maybe it's the samples you happened to use, but the simple one gives the feeling of being cheap and "dated" ... side by side on the DVD rack - I'd probably pick up the more complex one first.

I Agree with you Bec. The examples he picked do both suck monkey nuts! You should also remember that hair styles and clothing styles change every year, and in 5 years the covers from day that are hot will look cheesey to the kids buying porn at that time.

However, sometimes simple covers can be very nice sellers. We deal with about 95 studios with our distribution company. Those simple dated looking covers still sell. Granted, they are very cheap, but cheap shit moves.

It seems to go; hardcore, montage, softcore, star shot.

If the movie is hardcore, i'd rather see multiple shots of what the different scenes are like.
