Pros + Cons Of Owning A Paysite

Wanted to find out what we all thought about the pros and cons of owning a paysite were.

Is there a specific reason why you do or dont own a paysite?

Also, what do you think the easiest and also the hardest part of owing a paysite for YOU would be?

as someone who has owned sites, and managed other peoples sites, id say owning is great. sure there are a lot of hassles, but the end reward is good.

the pros are simple - your own site to promote, means you arent sending your traffic to someone else, and u can make more $$ if u run it right.

cons are tough... expensive to start & run, customer service is a bitch, govt is getting tough, etc..

easiest i would say is keeping members happy. assuming u actually try, unlike most large programs. hardest... getting traffic i think.

I agree with Dale's points... I did the same thing owning and managing for others.

Pros -
* I sell what I want or what I think will sell well.
* I don't have to wait for another company to develop something. I have control over what goes in and doesn't (only others who have more say are my members).
* I can play with different marketing methods without asking for permission or have them used for other purposes.

Cons -
* The expenses of setting up a site aren't fun. Visa fees and probably MC fees some day soon.
* Finding stable models for exclusive content - getting a model to show up isn't always the easiest thing in the world.
* If something isn't selling well, figuring out what wrong (Not that this is a con, but it can be time consuming if you don't have time.)

There are tons more I'm sure but those are the first to come to mind for me.

There are lots of pros and cons but the biggest for me are:

pro - knowing 100% for sure that I am NOT being shaved, I know first hand from working for one of the largest porn companies how shaving works and who does it

con - affiliates, I have never had to deal with such a huge bunch of whingy cry babies in my life, and those that bitch the most generally send the least traffic too.

It's all based on time really, and how hard you work.

I think work pays off wether you are a paysite owner or promoter.

Agreed on that but then if it was all time based, that would mean that the little guys should be bigger than the 'big' guys?

More paysites take more time to run than less surely?

well, time is money no matter how you put it. You spend the same man power with or without a paysite. Time on the other hand is spent researching, trial and error, and persistence. The biggest reason why the little guys are'nt bigger is because less time is spent. These guys go to college, have 9 to 5 and this is just a way to make extra cash. Spend the time it takes work and the money well... you know

Well, I'd say that yes that can be part of it, they don't spend the time but then too the big boys also have a staff and the small guy doesn't... which does make a difference too... i don't think it is simply just about time spent at it, it is how you adapt and how you perform with what resources you have and how you reinvest it into the operation.
