Billing 101

    Hey guys,

Being that I am now working hands on with my program members, I was talking to this really new guy that had a lot of really good questions for me. Some that I think are GREAT for new webmasters that are serious about someday owning their own pay sites and programs.

Who would you say is a good processor for a new site?
Why would you suggest them to a new webmaster as someone to use?

What about dialer programs as a viable option for new sites? Is there anyone special that you use? If so, what makes them stand out?

Also what about ACH check payments as a billing option?
You'll get more with a kind word and a 2 by 4 then you'll get with just a kind word.

i highly recommend ccbill, they have everything you need including ACH cheque processing, a 900 dialer option, a partnership with goodthinxx to use their world dialers, the built in affiliate program that allows affiliates to add your program into their consolidated program (makes em more likely to sign up and try your program) plus top notch support.

    cheers,
    Luke

I just received a very nice email from Adam over at IBill to tell me all of their services. I have never used them, but he did make some good points that you would want to think about while picking your billing company.

How long has the billing company been in business?

Several billing companies have gone out of business during 2002-2003: (This is a list of companies I was given) WebsiteBilling, Globill, ACPay, DutchBilling, Globosale, Ginix, PSW, StormPay, etc.

Another good thing to do is ask people that you know. Luke posted his views on 1 billing solution out there and why he likes them. To me this is a good way to find out about the company, before you speak with their sales staff and get into the whole "Well we can do this and that, and all we want is $700 and your first born son for Visa"

I think in the US that both ccBill and iBill are the big daddies on this and cover a lot of ground, but i would also recommend that whatever you choose for your primary, you also have at least one other option on standby if not two.

Rules change or sometimes companies change policies that have a dire effect on your operation, so having a backup in place is to me just as essential as having a primary one.

I have used both iBill and ccBill and they are good, but they are also huge and for folks just starting out that need a lot of hand holding, they aren't always the best in that regards.

I also use Jettis which has been okay for me as well.

    well.....

Yes...I think we'll all agree on CCBill, IBill and Jettis. And certainly, finding a competent, trustworthy credit card processor is a priority. But don't forget about alternatives to credit card billing. You mentioned dialers. Personally, I find little value in dialers, particularly since I work for an alternative billing company. I'm not going to turn this into a big sales pitch (just a little one) because most of you here know me and what I do. For those who don't, please contact me and ask any questions you may have. 123bill is proving to be successful and we're managing our growth well. Truly, I think 123bill will become much more of a standard for alternative billing solutions in the very near future.

Thanks for letting me get the plug in...and please let me know if there's anything I can help you with.

i'm in the process of setting up epoch/paycom for my sites. theyve been really good to me, and i like what they offer. i dont think they have any kind of affiliate program in place, but once i start taking affiliates i plan to have my own software anyway.

i suspect that ccbill will be added in the very near future as well, they are a great company.

ibill kindof pissed me off, or at least the sales rep did. i consider certain information about a business & website to be private, so there is no need for a sales rep to tell anyone & everyone those details.

Again i would say go with CCBill for a new site if you havent had any prior experience with processors.

From what i have seen the folks at CCBill are more than helpful and are happy to answer any questions or concerns you may have regardless of how menial they may seem.

    Regards,

    Lee

No. We all wouldn't agree paycom, ccbill and jettis i would agree on. There is still a bad taste in peoples mouth over iBill past business decisions. Right now, I can not endorse iBill.

ok, I guess I promoted ccbill and did not mention that ibill, epoch and jettis are all equally stable processors. IBill is my second recommendation, second mainly because their systems are really old and extremely hard to navigate and to set things up. I can't rate epoch since I can't process with them. As for Jettis, I do recall when a jettis rep came on this board a while back and I asked him a slew of questions which he never answered (these were the same questions I asked directly to them without an answer). Lemme go dig out that thread...

    cheers,
    Luke
