Do you like your site's content?

    Hi all,

I often suggest to inquiring webmasters that they work in a niche that turns them on. I spend so much time working on my sites that I just couldn't bear it if I had to stare at Asian guys all day, seven days a week. I certainly couldn't work in the straight side of the business. I cover the hairy men and Euro uncut markets, I could definitely do a skinhead site, and I could probably manage a muscle domain or maybe a porn star encyclopedia-type site, maybe a military site, but that's probably about it.

How is it for you? Do you like your site's content? Does it turn you on personally, or was it purely a business decision? Do you think being turned on by your content helps you create a better website?

And if you're straight working in the gay biz, how do you feel about your content? How do you know what's good? How do you know if it'll sell?

Or do you think it doesn't matter: throw any naked guy up on a site and someone will buy it?

    Cheers

In my opinion, I think if the niche is one that interests you then you are more than likely to know how to better market it than say some straight dude who is doing it on a purely business sense.

At the same time you do run the risk of pushing your own views on that niche which might not be the consensus of the majority in it, if that made any sense.

I guess what I am trying to say is that if you are into a topic then you can better relate to it, better choose the pics and layout and ad copy than someone who doesn't, but keeping in mind that you still have to look at it from a business perspective.

In the long run, the more you identify with a niche personally the more likely you are to succeed, least I think so, but me just dumb ass blonde word jockey.:goof:

You know me, D-bear, I'm all about working in niches that turn me on. But I'm always worried that I'm missing something big by limiting myself.

Good point! I just can't get my head around the "bear" niche, even though I'm a hairy man admirer. 50% think it's about being hairy and 50% think it's about being fat. And these sub-niches are not necessarily compatible, so you may be potentially offending half of your visitors.

For a design point of view... I made my best sites with straight content, and believe me or not, straight content doesn't turn me on.
So for me, i don't think it's a matter of content. I can do great with shitty pictures as i can do bad with awesome content.

For my first site, well i didn't have too much choices. As i want to shoot my own content... i've decided to start with something that is easier to shoot.. so amateur 18-25 will be the first niche for me. I'm attracted to 30 and older guys so yeah those 18-25 guys will turn me off but still it's not a big interest to me.
It's just easier to shoot amateur regular content that guys with extremely big dicks or anything.

So for now, that'll do it and i can practice on that first site and see how it goes... then maybe later, i'll do something totally original and something i really enjoy to shoot.

I've been working in porn since 1995 and at this point the only thing that turns me on is CHECKS IN THE MAIL!

I've shot plenty of models I don't particularly like, and when I worked in retail, I sold plenty of shoes I didn't like either. I even hold my nose and make boxcovers for straight porn.

On the other hand, I created two whole sites specifically for my own tastes: MuscleBearCub.com
    BellyWorship.com
    Mark Kliem
    LavenderLounge.com -megasite
    LavenderLoungeblog.com - gay porn news
    LavenderLounge.biz - affiliate program

even though I'm not gay, I understand the hairy bear niche because it's something I like personally in a man. I like big guys who are very masculine and overpowering. If they're overweight that's ok but not a must. I think it has something to do with them being big and strong that makes me feel small and yeilding.

    ok I'm turned on..

Well I don't think that I have to like the content to create sites. Our live stuff is all twink. 90% of the videos I sell are stuff that I don't care for. I just don't think my personal view plays much into it. It's more what does the public like, what sells, and what is going to make my clients, and my bank account PHAT.

I would say that working with content that you like is good for new webmasters. So they are excited about it, work harder to make sales, ect. Once your experienced with things like some of are, I don't think it matters if you sell what you like only, or sale anything with a price tag.
You'll get more with a kind word and a 2 by 4 then you'll get with just a kind word.

When new webmasters, gay or straight, ask about building sites I always advise them to look at what they like. Work a niche or idea that turns them on while they learn the business.

As we all know the learning curve in online adult can be tricky to manuever at time... Enjoying what you're doing while you're working the curve is only going to make life easier and more BEARable!

But I always add that once you know the business... take a look at what else is out there. If money and time are available begin to explore outside of your orignal area. There may be opportunities that you would like to venture into like videos, content, sex toys, etc. Or you may see something that you didn't even know you liked LOL

When I first started I opened gay sites filled with hunks and men over 25... worked them from day one. But one of my first paying jobs was marketing straight and mature women. If that was my entry to online adult I don't think I would have been working on the net for long LOL

Going forward I honestly do not think you HAVE to like what you're looking at, but it's a good thing to begin with.

Here an article I wrote a while ago on the basic idea

    My best,

Mark, you always make me laugh.

Good posts everyone. Personally, I just don't think I could spend too much time on something I didn't like. But, if my bear site started to dry up financially, I guess I'd have to face that.

You do realize by 'gay' I mean a man who has sex with other men?

You know as of right now we dont have any content that i actually *like* personally.

That being said though i think it does help if you start out doing something you like and growing from there, 5 years or so agao i started out marketing jock and twink sites and quite frankly they bored the hell out of y but that was pretty much all the 'gay' market consisted of then.. and look at us now

    Regards,
