    Has Anyone Else Noticed How..

Once one company does something in the form of a promotion all the others start doing the same type of promotion to?

Is it really getting that hard to get webmasters sending traffic and buying services and goods that some companies feel threatened by others and have to 'match' what their competition is doing?

A good example of this is the recent 'content blowout' craze that seems to be sweeping the majority of providers, you can buy something like 1000 sets for a ridiculous price of like $500.

Dont get me wrong i fully understand the basics behind offering these types of sales but cant people be original anymore?

    Your thoughts on this?

    Regards,

    Lee

what's the old saying, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery?

I think in content its about sales and if one is lowering prices or making drastic cuts the others are more or less forced to copy the trend, just like when airline tickets go on sale, the others have to follow suit.

But I do wish there was more originality in some instances, but then it is a market driven business, if you want to compete you have to sometimes follow the other guy. (now if only he was cute too<sigh>)

    i agree, everyone copies everyone.

speaking of content... these blowout things really hurt the little guys like me... i sell high quality stuff, a limited amount of times. but why would anyone pay me $50 a set for semiexclusive, when they can get 1000 sets for $500? even if it is mediocre overused shit... most webmasters dont care, because they just want to fill their sites & drive traffic... sadly it works...

meanwhile its damn near impossible for me to sell content.

You know that was something else i thought about, are there REALLY any more orignal ideas left in adult?

It just seems that as late, all of the [what would have been termed 'hardcore'] sites lately seem to be being launched as 'reality' sites to me thats stupid. Whats so real about interracial chicks and guys fucking that wasnt 3 years ago? Or what about twinks and older guys, its the same stuff that has been around for eons but all most of these companies are doing is using the same old recycle shit collections of images and movies, calling them a 'reality site' and not many webmasters notice

Reality sites to me are nothing more than hardcore paysites we were used to seeing up until 2-3 years ago with a different tour style but maybe thats just me.

Probably gonna get slapped for this one, but I think that many of the trends of recycling or whatever is simply because to do something special, something unique takes hard work.

I also think that greed plays a factor, people want to maximize the return on the barest minimal of work. They simply don't want to go that extra mile to make it different, make it unique.

Innovation comes from desire as well as need, and I think there simply isn't the desire because many webmasters are either complacent enough to accept what is instead of demanding what could be, because I think many webmasters are also inexperienced and in it for the quick buck rather than the long haul.

but change comes, sometimes just too slow to notice.

You know i would agree with you on that actually.

Especially the hard work and quick buck issue this is all to apparent on some of the other message boards out there and its actually the one thing i hate the most in the industry, even after 10 years many webmasters still think we sell porn to get quick rich and they dont realize just how much wok has to be done on a daily basis that doesnt involve just posting on discussion and community forums.

I totally understand what Dawgy is saying. We were doing that super blowout sale for a while because we were trying to keep up with all the other sales going on, but it was really hurting our relationship with our photographers, not to mention the fact that we were adding to the game of everyone having to lower prices on their own sites. Then we found that people would stop buying from us until we had a sale. We had to totally re-think our plan. So now we've put a hold on all sales and promotions and we've reduced a lot of our regular prices so that everyone can get a good price and not have to wait for a sale.

I also think that it's good for people in the same area of the industry to help each other out. I've referred people to other providers if I knew they needed something specific that either we don't have or when they've bought all we had. I like to keep tabs on who's selling what, so that way I can still take care of my clients and help out someone else who is in the business.

Did I get off topic? Sorry.
