Obviously i check to make sure we did stil own it and we do but ive just added Dotster to the list of companies never to do business with because of this email

    Regards,

I didn't know they did that. I use Dotster for all of my domain registrations, and I've been pretty happy with them.

I prefer goaddy.com for domains. They are really fast, and you never hear anything from them unless your names are about to expire.

Plus the names are like $8.95 or something.
You'll get more with a kind word and a 2 by 4 then you'll get with just a kind word.

I stopped using Dotster a long time ago because they have something really unscrupulous going on other than what Lee described. Check this out:

We were planning to buy a bunch of URLs and made a list to check availability through Dotster. We had to wait till the next day to get the budget approved, but suddenly the best ones were no longer available and sold to someone else! The ULRs were just too unique and specific to our own sites to be a mere coincidence.

Apparently, Dotster has some deal with a "cyber sitter" that snatches up URLs that don't get purchased immediately. Pretty sneaky.
