Anyone have any info about how to set up live streams with media player? I want to try out using MP to stream live shows instead of emulive. It's good, but it just costs to damn much. I know it can be done, but I have no clue how to set it up, or where to find info about doing it.

Seriously though i hear Emulive is a good program for streaming not sure if thats what you are asking or not but may be a good starting point

yea it's good, but it's like $4000.00 a year I pay them now. Why pay that to them when I can use MP for free and do the same thing?

You have to have a Windows Media Server to stream live through Media Player. I looked into emulive and nearly croaked when I saw the cost. I'm using a remote Streaming Media hosting company to provide live streaming. Its not too expensive, but if you're streaming 24/7 it might get a bit pricey.
setting up a windows media server isnt that difficult. I am confident most of the folks here could handle it with a little coaching. Not to mention, it is a LOT less expensive to do it this way, and depending on where you locate the server, it can be very convenient to update your own server.
Streaming media (audio, video) with Windows Streaming Server is a trivial task. The only difficult part of it is trying to establish a balance between an audio and video quality that is good enough for your clients, but is not too generous, in an effort to save you bandwidth.
Streaming eats bandwidth alive, and if you have many members streaming, can be quite costly, as eclipse has mentioned.
Partner Streaming Server with Windows Media Encoder, and you can easily provide live broadcasts, as well as on-demand streaming audio and video archives to your customers for a very low price. Consider getting yourself a dedicated Windows server to do this from, as I have not seen many companies that offer Streaming Services on a shared basis for anywhere near a competitive price.
