    TGP Hot Linker

    Hi guys,

I've been submitting to TGPs over the past couple of weeks, and today, I notice in my logs that I've got this Japanese guy hotlinking all of my images on a bulletin board. (It's the same URL that was doing this a couple of weeks back.)

The images are watermarked with my site's URL, so do you all think I should just leave it alone and chalk it up the cost of doing business with TGPs?

Personally, I'm not getting a recip link off those images, so I'm inclined to want to shut the mother-fucker down with an htaccess.

    The site is http://club1069.topfong.com/

How can I stop anything from coming from this site at all. Nothing, nada, I don't want these mothers even coming to my site. I've been having trouble with this site for weeks now and I'd like to completely prevent them from accessing my site, unless you have a better suggestion.

I also have to be careful about what I put in the htaccess file because obviously I don't want to screw over my legit TGP stuff.

    Thanks
    Dzinerbear

    Michael,

Block the url in htaccess. Blocking one deviant URL won't effect your other TGP work. While having someone hotlink IS a part of dark side of the business, you shouldn't have to pay the price. Block the fucker.

Question... is this person linking ONLY the pics? Or is he/she bold enough to be posting a thumb/text that links to the larger pics as well? LMK I'm asking this because if he is sending the surfer to your site to see the larger pic but just bypassing your ads and html, then there is a way to work this to your benefit.

No, he's just hotlinking the images, and I'm afraid I'm a big newb when it comes to htaccess, what do I put in the htaccess file to block just that site.

    It was http://club1069.topfong.com

And thanks for the host suggestion, I'll ask about it.

    Thanks

It won't hurt to specifically block that url, but it will be more effective to prevent all hotlinking from domains and IP other than your own.

If you do a search you should find the info for setting up .htaccess

Micahel I know Jasun mentions a line of code in here:

    http://forums.gaywidewebmasters.com/...ght=hotlinking

But searching anything I could find, the main concensus all seems to be talk to your host about the proper htaccess for preventing hotlinking.

That topfong site is notorious for this.

They're the same ones who'd done the same to me several months back. A further problem with that site is that it's insanely trafficked so if they hotlink 5-10 images they'll eat up 10s of GBs of bandwidth in a manner of hours.

.htaccess takes care of it lickity split.

BTW it's not a Japanese site, but a Chinese gay porn discussion forum that operates out of Taiwan, not the mainland.

    FYI. .

But yeah, they hotlink like mad there.

I found this on the web, I'm using it in an htaccess right in the folder and it seems to be stopping them, but it's letting all my legit stuff in, which is obviously what I want. But I'm so green at this I'm afraid I'm going to fuck things up and get into doo-doo with TGP owners.

Can anyone see any problems with this?

    SetEnvIfNoCase Referer "^http://club1069.topfong.com/" BadReferrer
    order deny,allow
    deny from env=BadReferrer

    Cheers

those fuckers have been at it for ages... they won't stop, you won't get any business from them, and they don't care that they're stealing from you.

I just through the appropriate .htaccess file in place, and voila.

Hey BD, thanks for clearing up the nationality of that site. I just assumed it was Japanese since my site was recently featured in that Japanese G-Men magazine.

Hey Jasun, do you have the htaccess file handy that shoos those guys away. The one I tried gave a 500 error to everyone.

My host isn't likely to be any help. There's a reason they're so cheap.

    Cheers

    Michael,
The .htaccess I used disables all hotlinking and doesn't mention that one board in particular.

That 1069 topfong board thing has several mirrors so if you only disable one, the rest will eventually get ya too if not already doing so.
