Protesters Confront Gay Cruise Passengers

Gay and lesbian cruise ship passengers were confronted by more than 100 protesters holding signs and chanting anti-gay slogans as they stepped off their chartered ship in the Bahamas.

The protesters, led by Christian pastors, gathered in a square in front of the Nassau cruise terminal yesterday and chanted: “Gay ways are not God’s ways!”

As a trickle of passengers stepped out, protesters waved signs saying “If you’re openly gay, stay away” and “We will not bow to the gay agenda!”

Former talk show host Rosie O’Donnell, a cruise promoter, was aboard the Norwegian Dawn but was not among those who disembarked.

Gregg Kominsky, a founder of cruise organiser R Family Vacations, said the passengers – 1,150 adults and 450 children – had come to have fun and that on previous trips he found most Bahamians friendly and welcoming. “We are not really here to make a statement,” he said.

That is quite depressing, you can't even take a cruise and relax now. I know I wouldn't be very happy to get off a cruise ship to run into a bunch of protestors. This world is full of way to much hate.

That really is disappointing. Funny how these religious types spout God, I always thought God was about Love, Tolerence, Acceptance, didn't think he was about racism and bigotry like these folks exhibit... oh well there are good folk out there too so that at least helps make the days worthwhile.

last November I went to Nassau with my husband. We stayed at one of those "couples only" places. Before we traveled I was reading all of the resort brochures. They stated it was male and female couples only. I thought that was bizarre. We did meet a couple that were lesbian. They told me they had invited 2 of their gay boyfriends to go so they would be ALLOWED to stay at this specific resort. I found this sad. They live their life completely open and honest, but felt they had to hide to be able to travel where they wanted to go.

One of the travel brochures I was reading on the way home about Nassau stated that The Bahamas does not openly tolerate homosexuality. The quote I found most interesting was " Some resorts do not allow homosexuals to be guests and they do not appologize for this at all".

If I had only known this before my trip I would have changed my destination. I will do more research before hand next time.

thats really sad, considering the number of hot boys that come off those islands. *drool* im only about a 2 hour plane ride away, and am planning to hop over for a weekend soon just for the sole purpose of meeting some native boys.

Oh WOW! I am going on a Gay Cruise in November with my partner! Watch out. Sounds like I am gonna have some fun! The thing is we come off as a straight couple so no one ever understands why we are hanging with the queers....hehehe!
Last time I was at one of those resorts in the Bahamas we had fun with one of those really HOT island boys...so I don't think they are all homophobes. He had a nice big one!
