If your site is hotlink protected your images won't show up on image search.
So you have to have an area that's not htaccess protected.

Don't you also have to have an image that is named to match the search the person is doing? e.g. if you are searching for twink pics, then it would bring up pictures with the word twink in the name?

Or does it search the page?
You'll get more with a kind word and a 2 by 4 then you'll get with just a kind word.

but when someone clicks on the image to go directly to it, does it work? or are they given an error message?
I'm not sure how google is imagesearching those pics as I even run tests on hotlink protection with google image search. When I disable the hotlink protection, all of the images on the site are promptly picked up by google image search. and the moment I put back the htaccess hotlink protection, the images are no longer in the index within a matter of days.

can I take a peak at some of your hotlink protected images that are showing up in google image search?

and andy, both the file name and the content of the page the image sits on determine whether or not it shows up in a google image search for certain keywords.

In my own experience, google will index your page --- and during this it also puts all the images on your page into its images index.

So it's just like getting indexed for the pages -- it is all about the words you use. Optimize your page for your targeted term. And for images - I would name the images with real words relevant to your targeted term. ie. don't name your pic 123a.jpg -- name it humongouscocks1.jpg

Also remember to that Google typically defaults to "SafeMode Filter On" when you do an image search to keep adult images from appearing in searches. I just searched for Jeremy Tucker on images.google.com --- with SafeMode On my site did not appear.

With SafeMode off, my page on the endowed rican appears first.
