Paysite Tour Question / Thoughts

Ive been looking at a few different options lately for paysites and got into thinking about how the tour pages are used.

Currently almost every sponsor out there makes their tour pages specific to a domain and then that tour links to either a sub domain or a sub directory for the members area.

Now what if.. the 'tour' itself was on a sub domain and the main domain name was only redirected to depending on how the program let the affiliates link to the tour?

What i mean is an affiliate link code goes to something like..

http://paysite.affiliatedomain.com/?id=affiliatecode

That would be what you saw in your browser and that also gives you the usual no console, join page options etc etc.

Then if a surfer typed in http://www.paysite.com they got a full blown 'dirty' tour.

Do you think this method would be frowned upon by affiliates?

Yes and no. I would think it would depend on the program and how it was designed to work.

Like ours for example are http://wetrack.it/latinjocks/a/38/ (my link) Once you have loaded this page, you are redirected to the main site. (your browser shows the link as www.latinjocks.com)

When the surfer joins the site, the their is a script in the join page that tracks the info that was placed on the surfer's computer and gives the webmaster credit for the sale. I know when I look at a site, I always check the main URL (the www.site.com) instead of the webmaster's affialte link. The reason being I want to see what is there with out all the pop up mess or exit consoles that a lot of programs are using.

I have seen some other sponsors that offer softcore and hardcore versions of their tours, they just embed some tags into their affiliate links and get directed to the appropriate tour. It was a popular option at the time, but that was about a year ago so I am not sure if they are still doing this.

I have a softcore tour set up for a couple of my sites that I was using to send ppc se traffic to (for se's that demanded no hardcore). Overall the conversions were only slightly less for the softcore tour.

You raise an interesting idea, especially with these new 2257 rules pending, we could see a lot more free stuff going softcore.
