Well we were just added to the Florida Evac list. Since the storm surges are expected to be high our area has been flagged.
My Dad wants to ride it out... Needless to say my Mom has a lot to say about that LOL

Where my mother and I both have condos will be under a mandatory evacation order starting tomorrow at noon. Spending a lot of time backing up computers, shuttering, and getting ready to leave. Just where to go is the question. This is the first major hurricane that my county (Indian River) has ever been the target of.
I won't probably be around for a while either. Lee and Gary good luck as you are definitely in the path also.

I just ran a gauntlet of hotels and motels in GA. We're trying to get out of the flood zones more than the rain and wind.
We're hearing that many people have made multiple reservations (10 reservations) in various areas, just to have a place to go. So others are having sifficulty finding anything because of it.
I know that Kingsland, GA has some available places. It's off of I95 about 40 minutes North of Jacksonville. They are 20 miles from water, and the storm is expected to far less powerful by the time it gets near there.
In every map and projection that storm is so wide that no matter where we go we're going to get something.
We'll back to planning.

Gary - just don't know whether to go north, south, or west. No good data on the path of the hurricane until tomorrow sometime. Presently the news services have mentioned our home Vero Beach since early this morning. Man, I am ready for a nervous breakdown as I have pets and my mother to consider. I do own a house in Broward County that we use when visiting my brother in Boca Raton and when I need to check my business in the Fort Lauderdale areas. If the hurricane continues on its present projected path, going south will be the best bet. The hurricane will be traveling north so it is dumn to leave it here just to catch it up there somewhere.
Good luck with your parents - get them out of there. I lived through Hurricane Andrew and suffered injuries and a huge property loss then. So I just can't take the normal FLORIDA ATTITUDE of storming it out. It took years to heal mentally, emotionally, physically and financially after Andrew. Life is too precious - too hell with property.
You know what the REAL scary thing is...

Hopefully that one wont amount to anything but right now, its following the same route as both Charley and Frances has done.
