    Traditional Adult Link List Help

I've had good success using gay link lists for small free sites, and I just did some submissions to established traditional adult link lists with little success in getting accepted.

My format for the free sites is warning page, main page, gallery 1, gallery 2. I put my reciprocal links to the link lists on the warning page above the enter link. I have also had a section for "more free sites" which includes 3 top lists and 8 or so of my other free sites. I've put this "more free sites" section as text links either on the warning page by the recip links, or as a column on the main page (which is how I did it for the site I submitted to traditional adult link lists). I think I ran into trouble with the rule "no more than 3 sponsor (or sometimes outgoing) links per page".

I don't want to drop using "more free sites" as it has been great for search engines and keeping surfers longer at my sites, but I also want to get on to more link lists.

My proposed solution: Add another page "links". Have a link to this page at the bottom of each of the other pages (counting this as one of the 3 outgoing links allowed on the main and gallery pages).

What do link list experts think?

You do realize by 'gay' I mean a man who has sex with other men?

Good question and this is one i would like to know about to.

I know it would probably be accepted on our link list but some of the larger ones may have issues with it.

i generally dislike a Links section as people rarely look at these and it just becomes us sending traffic with nothing in return.
generally it depends on the site and how much i like it

Jigg, the reciprocal links to the link lists (such as your Billy's Links and Just Us Boys, formerly LinkMeAllOver) go just above the enter link in my proposed solution.

The "links" page would have only top lists and links to my other free sites. I do agree that a separate links page will reduce the number of clicks, compared to having these links on the warning or main page. But getting listed on many more link lists (especially the powerhouses like Richard's Realm, Green Guy, etc) should overcome that disadvantage.

To be listed on many, many link lists involves setting up mirror warning pages (with 8 or so recips apiece).

I'm a maverick I guess, because regardless of the site I've built I've never put recips for anyone on the first page. I always put them on a "links page".

Some people don't like that and thats fine with me if I don't get listed with them.

Here's what I've found over the years -- generally speaking my links pages receive decent traffic from both surfers and SE's.

As an example, at my dating site my links page is at: http://www.gaydatingtips.com/other_gay_websites.html

This page has been up for about a year now and consistantly ranks in the top 5 pages for page views. Often it's in the top 3. The page receives a good mix of traffic from both within the site and from SE's.

I've done the same thing at my porn site which is only a few weeks old but I expect the same to happen there too.

Of course I'm not a directory or link list owner so it doesn't matter what I say except that hopefully more owners might realize that they can benefit from being linked to from pages other than the home/index page.

In any event, I'm thankful to those SE's/Directories/Link Lists that don't mind where I place the recip or if it's a text link, (which is the best as far as SE's are concerned) and who do list me.

But it sure can be frustrating at times.

Why don't you build a hub site and put everything that is yours on it and just put the one more free sites text link off the free site main page to that site?

You can have it look like a linklist website, even put on a script and not have it set where anyone but you can actually "submit" -- you'd just list all of your free sites, any pay or AVS sites u have, plus links to sponsors you push with your refer code. You could have the link on the free sites go through a full page ad before they access the hub main page as well.

    Thanks for your comments

    Thanks for your comments.

Robin, with a "unique" or even custom site such as your http://www.gaydatingtips.com a separate links page can work well. Such sites have a lot to offer surfers and webmasters who want link exchanges. I'm questioning this on behalf of templated small free picture sites (which don't have a lot of leverage with other webmasters, particularly the bigger players in the adult link lists).

Bec, the hub site idea is a good one, in the long run, but after my sites are getting a lot more traffic. At this point, I want to be able to list each small free site with top lists, as they are a source of starter traffic and show up on search engines quickly.

I'll spend some time surfing the gay listings on the largest adult link lists to see how (and if) other webmasters are promoting their free sites.

Anyone else submitting to the big players on the adult link lists? I'd love to hear your take on this.
