    Webmaster page popups

I can’t think of a better way to turn me off then to have me click on a "webmasters" link when I'm checking out a site, have it take me to their program page and when I close that window (cause I’m not interested) I get hit with about 20 popups….
If I wasn’t interested before, NOW, I’m really not interested.
Do you think it’s wise to hit webmasters looking for affiliate programs with popups?

Funny you should ask. A couple of weeks ago, I signed up with a program, put their links on my site. When I tested them, I got killed with pop-ups, so I simply removed their links from my site and stopped promoting their program. I don't need surfers getting pissed with me or my site because I sent them into pop-up hell.

I guess pop-ups must work for sponsors because they keep using them. But why must we always go to the extreme: If one pop-up works, then 6 will work even better. Why can't we be discrete? Do you really think killing people with pop-ups does anything for you in the long-term?

I remember a discussion here a while ago where someone found a way around the Google pop-up killer. You know what people, if surfers are employing the pop-up killer, they hate pop-ups, why can't we as an industry respect that? Why must be resort so often to scumbaq tactics to get a sale?

    Rant over.

Yeah, it's one thing to kill your surfers with popups...but, what I'm saying is that do webmasters really need to be hit with popups while looking for affiliate info? Or worse, hit webmasters with popups to join their sites...yeah, like I'm going to join their site when I was looking for webmaster info...

I went to a site, clicked on thier webmasters link, after checking out their program I closed the page and was hit with full page (page take overs) ads about 10 of them, all for joining a hot new gay site...grrrrrrr!

Yeah, I just went from wanting webmaster info about their affiliate program, to deciding that what I really, really want is to join a site and watch some vids...

Oh I have so been there - makes me nuts! Like ok - you've renamed your template but PLEASE have the courtesy of removing the popup hell you've built in for the surfer wanting to buy porn ... and I totally don't understand that being used ON a sponsor site where you have to click the link and actually GO to their sites to see what they are about and get caught up in the popup hell when you close the page. They need a different entry or screenshot or something that lets me know what sort of sites they have without them cramming the popups down my throat.

On the other hand -- if I'm getting bombarded, it lets me know really fast that I don't want to be promoting them either... especially those that aren't offering a no-pop link option for the referal link.

    Amen to that Bec!
That's why I still love TB
If only more sponsors would offer that option.

I personally never use any popups (only an opt-in mail popup...and and I only that once in a while)

Also, I let my sufers know when they're about to click on an off site link, that there wil be popups...

But, I dunno...maybe they work. I've never had to use em. I find that it works best just to treat surfers the way you'd wanna be treated
    Just my .02

You do realize by 'gay' I mean a man who has sex with other men?

While i would agree that it is annoying to a point pop-ups on webmaster orientated sites can also be an invaluable marketing tool.

However, they should be used consideratly with some kind of Java to make sure they only ever pop once

    Now on the same topic..

How do you feel about consoles on webmaster forums and communities?

    Regards,

    Lee

Any popups on a site aimed at webmasters shouldn't be the popups they shove at the porn surfer Lee ... we aren't there to join their site as a surfer.
