Do you have office space, or work out of your home?

I work out of my home, but I've been daydreaming about renting a tiny office.

I wondered if any of you work in commercial space, and if you're more productive working out of an office than you are working from home.

We're still out of the house... but I long for an outside office.

I've been working from home for so long I keep thinking an office outside of here would do me a world of good. Although, I would have to find a place that would allow us to bring the dog LOL

    Someday I guess LOL

    My best,

Currently I work from home and enjoy it. I have a solid home office set up with most of the equipment you'd find in a small business office. If you work for youself and don't have a staff, i don't see too many benefits of renting an office, as long as you can stay focused on work at home.

I work from home. I have a big house so walking to the office is like walking a few blocks to work ( just kidding not that big )

I like working from home. I spent years in corporations making other people money and feel independent here at home. If I ever did get an office it would be for the employees and not a place I would frequent.

Thank God for the internet. Without it we wouldn't have this freedom. All hale the internet! :-D

Ever since I got into the job market, I daydreamed about starting SOME sort of business that I could run from home. I've always hated sitting in traffic twice a day and going out into the weather.

Ten years ago, there was a 3 month period where I rented a storefront for my business and tried to keep my apartment. Regardless which place I was in at the moment, whenever I needed a tool or my coat or my briefcase, it was always at the other place! Since the storefront was larger, I moved into it and got rid of the apartment.

Personally I don't think I'll ever have an office outside of my home the prices for commercial space is obscene and there's also some nice tax benefits from working at home. That might not be true in the U.S. though.

Having said that, if I start shooting content I may need some sort of small studio. As my house and my condo don't really have the space for that I guess I would need to look for something commercial. I could see myself doing what my partner did when he was a photographer in NY -- buy a loft and live/work out of that.

Robin you're on the mark with your idea. I have a granny flat at my place here in Australia and I work, and do a lot of filming, in there. It's attached to the house, but seperate, so it's like being home but away from home.

I used to have my office in my bedroom. Big mistake! Hard to relax at night in a room you've been working in all day. I don't know how the Singapore whores that work out of their studio apartments do it!

    Interesting question

Well since 1999 I have had my entire life condensed into one single bedroom apartment. This setup included a web server, a mail server, and a T1 line. Thanks to all the porn money I have been making this year I just stepped up to a very spacious 2 bedroom duplex in west Austin.

In fact I spent all last week moving. And now for the first time in years I don't have my computers humming along right there in my bedroom. It's wonderful! And I have so much room to live!

But yes working from home can be isolating. My neighbors here where I live are very friendly and nice. In fact I'm making a banana pudding tomorrow for me and the neighbors.

And my favorite bar is 3 miles down the road, where I can schmooze with the latino boys.

I've worked from home now off and on for a few years. It has it's + and -. I think the office helps with the separation from work and personal life.

I have worked out of my house since 1996. Back them I lived with my parents and worked out of my tiny room. I don't know if I would ever want an office because I like to work naked, j/j. I love it and could never take it for granted that I can make my own hours and don't have to report to nobody and don't have to drive to get to work. I love this job.
