    Yahoo Search URL blocking

    just read this on CNET

People can also maintain an archive, with unlimited storage, of their search histories. In another feature, My Yahoo Search will let people block sites from further appearing in a set of search results, by clicking "block."

You do realize by 'gay' I mean a man who has sex with other men?

That is an interesting find thanks for sharing it Jigg

I do have to wonder though, how, if at all, this will affect the adult industry?

The main thing i see happening is that it will mean more non-related spam will start to happen.

Hmm.. this could be a bad move on Yahoos part, i wonder what would happen if this got picked up by Google or one of the other big boys of the SE world?

    Regards,

    Lee

my initial thought was people blocking domains during search. like someone looking for "free gay pics" and any domain that tried to sell him something got deleted.

Thats what i thought at first but then i re-read it and it specifically said 'sites' not domains.

Whilst ill be the first to admit that isnt a very specific term, it would certainly attain to include 'categories' of sites, such as 'porn'

I think this is an inevitable direction that all search engines will go towards...embrace it and get to know it now and you will prosper well into the future!

I think it's a cool idea and long over due. Anyone who engages in organic search engine optimization and has a quality site to offer surfers shouldn't be overly concerned.

The people who rely on cloaking, bait and switch, and all kinds of other tricks for their search engine rankings will probably suffer the most.

This kind of development only strengthens the notion that when developing your sites you shouldn't be thinking only about getting a good search engine ranking, but about giving the surfer good value and giving them what they want. If they want bears, don't give them skinny guys with a dusting of hair between their pecs and call them "bears" because it's a highly sough after keyword.

Time and again, search engine optimizers will tell you if the improvements you're making to your site are going to improve the user's experience, run with it; if you're doing it simply to get a good ranking, you'll eventually get slapped because you're probably relying on tricks.

    Well said Dzinerbear.

This really shouldn't affect quality porn sites or any other site for that matter, if they're looking for quality customers and not just anyone that they can scoop up in their net.

Relevant results get more qualified visitors.

I agree with Michael. I think it's long over due. People spam every keyword they can to get the traffic, but yet offer nothing that people search for that word would want...

Allowing them to block sites that they don't care to see anymore will help clean up things for those of us that put forth a little effort with our sites. I don't think good sites that fit their keywords would be effected much. If anything I think it would help bring in more traffic by weeding out the JUNK CRAP.
You'll get more with a kind word and a 2 by 4 then you'll get with just a kind word.
