I Wonder? dumb ass newbie question...

What is a "doorway page" and how do I get one? I went to Home Depot and asked and they looked at me like I was nuts!

Anyway, I need to make some for my site. I have only one little problem which may prevent me from accomplishing this though and that is if it requires the ability to use Dreamweaver or any of those. I have not got the program (or any program) and I have 5 days left in which to do this...I go into the Hospital on Monday for Spine surgery.

    S.O.S. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

    Thank you,
    :kitten:

Typically, a doorway page is a page that's geared towards attracting search engine traffic for a specific keyword.

Doorway pages often contain the same paragraph of text where perhaps only the keywords are changed. The text often doesn't make a lot of sense. The page will have big, gigantic links. Often they have no pictures, or perhaps just a couple.

This is a kind of doorway page: http://www.bestsexhost.net/bp/

You should know that doorway pages are illegal where search engines are concerned and if you're caught using them, your site will be dropped or banned from a search engine.

Unless you know how to hard code html, you're going to need some kind of editor to make one of these pages.

Can I ask you why you want one? Why do you think you need one? And can you share the intended URL with us, perhaps we can suggest a better way of marketing your site.

    Cheers

Thanks for the quick reply. The reason is that it was suggested to me by a web designer who I do business with to and I quote, "There are hundreds of places to advertise. There are also a lot of things I've suggested to you that you haven't done yet, like building some optimized doorway pages for the search engines."

The problem is that I don't build sites. I don't know how. I paid him to build my site. So I'm not sure really where to begin. All I know is that I need to take responsibility for my site and do what's necessary to get it going.

The URL is http://www.megahung.com (I think that's what you mean by a URL)

that is the trouble with buying sites like that and not knowing anything about programming them.

The only thing you can do is a little reading and practice. It's not to hard to do a doorway page like the one Michael showed you.

I learned how to program html from http://webmonkey.wired.com/webmonkey/. Maybe it whill help you also.

You also don't need any special programs to make a site. You can actually make it in notepad or even word. they aren't anything great, but if you save the file as HTML (HTM) then it's a web page. :specs:
You'll get more with a kind word and a 2 by 4 then you'll get with just a kind word.

Thanks AndyMike. But is it something that will get me in trouble with the search engines? Refer to Dzinerbear's post on this topic...

You might find a free web program here FreeWare

Look in the left menu under programming for Editors WYSIWYG for starters.

    :yeah: like they said.

I seem to recall that person advising people not to go that route... Oh well.

Hmmmm -- OK 1st; realize that this is going to take you more than 5 days. But don't sweat it; relax Mamakity.

2nd. My thought would be to create a few "free tours" or perhaps "free sites". This would be helpful in several ways. You could submit them to the link lists and directories and the SE's would also find them. That way you would have more inbound links to your pay site.

Each tour would focus on a key phrase. Your pay site, megahung is about big dicks, so create a free tour that focuses on guys with big dicks.

The first page of your tour needs to have more text than anything else. If you're following the warning page 1st format then that's the page that you write about "guys with big dicks"; then you have a short "tour" or gallery which leads to your pay site.

Now make another tour. This time on a different phrase, Hot hung amateurs for instance...

Make several high quality tours/galleries/free sites whatever ya want to call them.

On your index page of megahung.com, you create links to those tours, perhaps by way way of a link to a sitemap first. What's a sitemap? just a webpage with links to those tours/galleries/free sites.

As for more detailed specifics as to how and what you put on these pages or mini sites; you'll need to start learning how to make a webpage.

Obviously this is just a bare outline of what a person might do to get things rolling in the right direction. And not necessarily the way that everyone would go about it.

    Hugs spunky girl!

I'd say you don't really need a doorway page as much as maybe just editing your sites pages....in terms of adding meta tags/keywords.

Then, if you want some traffic to it, maybe try buying some or start doing some link/banner exchanges with other sites

Don't feel bad about not knowing about doorway pages...I would have done the same thing at HomeoDepot...I've been in this for about 3 years and they still don't make any sence to me....

Course, that isn't really saying much...there's still way, way too much that I don't know about in this biz

Okay, you're going to have to learn HTML to some extent to survive in this business. In the beginning, you won't be earning enough to pay someone to do it all for you, so let's start another thread and see if we can't find you a free HTML editor.

Yes, you can use notepad, but unless you know how to write HTML code, it's still not going to be much help to you.

I guess I should clarify a little more. There are good doorway pages and bad doorway pages.

A bad doorway page will typically have a large header at the top of the page, a short paragraph of text, and a bunch of links on the page. If you're creating a doorway for the word "big cocks" then "big cocks" will be repeated over and over again. When you're done that page, you save it, click save as, and save is as big dicks, replace all the big cocks with big dicks, that sort of thing. Essentially, they're bullshit and of no real value to a surfer, their only intent is to trick search engines.

A good doorway page is one that has some value to the surfer while still directing them to specific areas into a larger site. It's kind of like a table of contents, if you will. Here's a couple of sites that have good pages, although I re-iterate, these aren't doorway pages in the bad sense of the word:

    http://www.bananaguide.com/index2.htm

    http://www.latinjocks.com/

A search engine needs to "read" text to figure out what a website is all about. The more text you put on it, the better. (I mean don't go crazy, a million words would be going overboard.) The two sites above have a reasonable amount of keyword-rich text.

Also, read this article about doorway pages and why they're bad.

    http://searchenginewatch.com/webmast...le.php/2167831

The problem with your megahung site is that there is very little useful text on the page to help search engines along. Most of the good text on that page is in the graphic, but it's not text, it's a picture of text.

How long are you in the hospital? How long after that will you be unable to do anything?

Maybe you can go to searchenginewatch and print off some stuff that you can read in the hospital. Take advantage of your down time to learn some stuff. Plus there are a lot of good articles here on this board.

Please check your private messages, I'm going to be sending one through.

    Cheers

I have to agree with DZinbear on doorways.

There are 'good' ones and 'bad' ones and the difference is really that each page of a good one is exactly nothing more than a well optimized page containing proper code for both the SE and human.

Title Tag that is relevent with the keyword supported by a following H1 tag that contains a variation of the keyword phrase further supported by some well chosen paragraph text again with a variation or two of the keyword phrase.

If stuck, you can d/l the trial version of DW for 30 days to get a hang for it and html but also try W3C Schools as a great place to get the basics on html.

Good luck on the hospital too.

"How long are you in the hospital? How long after that will you be unable to do anything?"

I'll be in for about 3-4 days with a Morphine pump. I'm not sure I will even be able to focus let alone learn something new. It's a pretty painful surgery as they cut through the anterior (back side) of the muscles to get to the vertebra. Then they stick me in a neck brace and although quite stylish very uncomfortable.

But once I come home then I can probably learn it. I'll still be medicated but I think at least then I can focus a little more clear.
    :high:

Great idea though. I'll print it out just in case I in better shape then what the doctors are telling me to expect.

Oh, and one more thing, mamakity, stop putting yourself down with those "dumbass newbie question" subject lines. We all had to start in this business. There aren't any dumb questions, we've all been there. Keep asking, that's the key.

And listen to Robin and gaystoryman, they're giving really good advice ... geez we Canadians rock.
