i put up links to stroke4u and pornication, but i have never seen a live guy at either. they never seem to have any.
this is pretty important to know if you have a site where you want the members to feel good after the experience. i have been checking these two feeds day and night, afternoon, and evening and very early morning. strok4u had a guy once. pornication, never.
You know the more im looking at a lot of these 'live' feed providers the more im beginning to realize that the industry needs to have a GOOD live feed provider.

First of all, thank you for trying our program and for bringing this issue to our attention again. It's a great point and deserves an explanation. I know there are times when you can access Stroke4U and won't find any models online, however we have at least one model online for more than 75% of a 24 hour period. Now, while 1 model is surely not enough, it's very difficult to get more models when the sales for our gay live feeds haven't been exactly record breaking.
In the past we've gone with a larger talent base to test the waters. We paid a studio with 5 models to be online at least 18 hours/day, but our sales didn't increase to compensate for the additional expense. It was difficult for us to justify spending all the additional monies on talent when there was no increase in sales or even in the amount of promotion we received. We'd love to have 15 guys online all day - ever day! In order to make that happen though, the sales have to support the models.
Simply put, our straight cams sell like crazy, and we've been trying to duplicate that success on the gay side for a long time. We want to be the #1 gay live feed, and with your help we're confident we can get there. Any suggetions, comments, input would be greatly appreciated.
I suspect the problem is this: why should any gay guy pay to watch anybody do anything on a cam when we have so many cam-to-cam sites where we can chat and jerk with guys for free.
That being said, I'm sure a decent pay cam site can make a good buck, but I think they need to offer something different than guys just sitting there playing with themselves.
Just a thought, but the way I've always made money was to find an under-serviced niche and fill it.
Can you get any bears on cam?
Maybe have the guys playing with dildos and other toys.
How about the watermelon show where a guy fucks a watermelon.
Guys in nylons and high heels.
The spanking show.
The foreskin stretching show.
The titplay play show.
The suck my toes show.
The I can suck my own dick show.
I think with it being so available for free, you're just going to have to pull in some way-out-there talent that can do some of the above. And maybe the straight cams will have to carry the gay cams for a bit until they get off the ground.
We just don't need any more skinny guys jerking off on camera, nor do we need any more muscle boys. Give us something different.

why would gay sites bother to put a cam site in their member area where there are no guys? you need to have a guy on or several ALL the time, and then let people know you have this feature.
you say you have a guy 75% of the time - well, i've been checking for days without seeing one. all different random times. so no gay sites will use this. if you have one guy, it's not that great, either. at peak times, you have more than one girl - right?
so unless you can offer the same service to gay webmasters, don't be surprised if it doesn't make money. one guy who is never there isn't going to keep our members very happy. you wouldn't expect str8 surfers to be flocking to one girl.
btw, Derek - gay sells twice as well as str8 for pretty much everyone. it's just a question of the same quality product you offer for str8 guys.
Basschick our goal is to make the afflaite more money and a provider of free content to fill up your members area. This being said we are doing our job.

I see your point but what can you do when your have done what you recomend and it doesnt make money and you end up losing every month. Would you do it?
Sorry dude, but it's 4:50 pm and I just checked and your site says "no models online now." If I were a surfer, I'd only need to see that twice, maybe three times, and I'd never come back.
If your straight cams are doing so well, then use them to subsidize your gay cams so you can have a couple of guys there 24-7 until you get this off the ground.

I agree. It's hard to find straight women that will get you off online, but guys that will are a dime a dozen.
That being said the MilitaryGuy network has been around for ages and almost always has someone online. As a matter of fact I've never gone to their site and not seen someone. ( I used to recruite there ages ago )

I'm not sure how your program works but maybe you could tweak your system to use more pull marketing to get surfers there when someone is on?
On every models page have a field where the surfer can put in their email and be notified when that model is online. Or be notified when any model is online. So instead of hoping surfers will come by when a model is online, you assure they will come by when they're online.
That way you, the webmasters and the models will be happy :-D

I can go to webcamnow.com right now and find 200 guys jacking off for free ($9.95 for Speedster upgrade). And these guys will be of every conceivable variety. If I wanted to see naked women on webcamnow.com, well, then I would be out of luck... I would have to go somewhere else and pay for it.
I just don't think gay cam plug-ins are a viable business model anymore.

Thanks to everyone for their valuable input. I really appreciate the advise in helping us improve our program and I want to thank those who've taken the time to respond. It'sno secret that finding live guys on cam is much easier than finding women and I think this is the real root of the problem. Guys aren't willing to spend a premium per minute when they can get the same thing for a monthly fee or even free. The suggestion was made to try niche cams (bears, toys, etc) or to alert surfers when certain models are online, and those are both great suggestions. However, they alone won't carry the site
to the level it needs to be in order to become a true success. I'm beginnig to think thelong term strategy will have to include much more in terms of features, models, and a
pricing structure change.
I think we've touched on the biggest issue with marketing live cams to gay men. i mean, every one of us has seen those cam sites where you pay a minimum fee and see another amateur guy.. hundreds of amateur guys who are hot and horny and into it... If you go to the live feed sites, they tend to be straight, bored, unhorny guys, and everyone on line is trying to get their attention.
I can just log onto just about any chat room at any time and say "wanna cam" and have 30 replies before you know what to do.

I think you're right. And even more important than you're "wanna cam" remark. Who needs to cam when you can jump on any number of chat lines and within 30 minutes have some guy running over to do you? There are too many options like free cams and chatlines for gay men.Originally posted by Jasun

i think we're combining two different issues here:
1. using livecams to give your members something else to do
2. using livecams to make a percentage of the minutes sold
my concern was having a livecam to offer my members something to do. if it made money, find. if not, fine. seems to me you could easily defray costs by having webmasters pitch in some money to have the feed in their member area.
on the other hand, flirt4free is highly populated 24 hours a day. maybe livecams DO sell, and the only reason no one else is making money is because they offer 2 guys max at a time. what if a guy wants to see a bodybuilder and you don't have one? what if one guy goes on 1 on 1, leaving only one guy? people LOVE variety - one guy or even two isn't very encouraging.
