In countries other than the US.

The fact of the matter is that the technology of cellphones in the US is 4-5 years behind the rest of the world.

For example, 5 years ago in the UK i could use my cellphone to order my weekly groceries.. I still cant do that in the US.

5 years ago in the UK if i wanted to use my cell phone to contact someone i would send them a text message (SMS) rather that having to 'speak' to them and, they woud txt me back a reply. The US still hasnt reached the potential of text-messaging as a technology.

Maybe I miss the point entirely.

If I understand 4fones correctly, 4fones charges for the downloads of the graphics, moantones, games to the mobile phones. Are enough mobile phone users willing to pay for these things at a high enough price? Why not offer these things for free as a vehicle for advertising PC sex paysites or other sex products instead?

As a novel item, direct sale of these downloads will probably work, but after the novelty wears off, I don't think these products give much bang for the buck. Just think of the surprisingly huge number of hits it takes to make a $2.95 trial sale to a really good general gay sex pay site designed for a regular monitor.

Surprisingly enough, it has been my experience that YES people will pay for these types of things to 'brighten' up their cell phone.

Again going back 5 or so years when these types of things first hit the UK they were HUGE all of my friends had a selection of them on their cell phones and, at around $2 a pop for a ring tone or a graphic, they would spend around $15 a month on the 'latest' ring tones and graphics to use on their cells.

Again though, it comes down to the fact that overall as a population the US hasnt reached the full potential that cell phones offer society as a whole as communication tools and ultimately, because this technology hasnt caught on to the general populous, the 'craze' of these cell ohone add-ons hasnt caught on either.

In the UK to a point, what your cell phone rings like and looks like, for many people from teens to pensioners is more of a status symbol amongst your friends, collegues and peers.

Throughout history many business men have been less than visionary, and made remarks like "why the hell would anyone want this?" or "that will never happen". I'm reminded of Bill Gates' famous "why would anyone ever need more than 640k of ram" speech.

That being said, I still have to agree with Jasun here. Why the hell would anyone need and/or want porn on their cellphone? Maybe this is a case of a company moving into a new industry in hopes that they'll be there on the ground floor? Otherwise known in the business world as "wishful thinking". It's a big jump to go from knowing that consumers will pay for catchy little ring tones, to thinking they'll also pay for cellular-porn.

Penises just aren't meant to be shown on such a small scale (Well, most aren't anyway).
