Members Area Upsells - What Unique Upsells Are Out There?

We have a few different products that we are going to start testing out shortly but we can always use more as upsells inside a members area, i should point out, these will initially be used as upsells inside an AEN system and, based on how well they perform (or not) that will define whether they get used inside a paysite members area so, what products are you utilizing as upsells right now and, more importantly, what are some of the lesser known products to upsell inside a members area be it a paysite or an AEN site?

Right now we have a selection of products like:

Adult Stores, Penis Enhancement Products, Pay Per View Theatres, Live Cams, Books, DVD Stores and, Auction Sites.

What else is there that can be used as an upsell apart from other affiliate program paysites?

Good question Lee, I'm interested in knowing as well.

I also use Adult Stores, Penis Enhancement Products, Pay Per View Theatres, Live Cams, Books, DVD Stores, some games, etc...in my members area.

But, what auction upsell sites are there, if any? Or do you run your own auction in you members area?

Just curious, but why do we, as adult webmasters, limit what we upsell to products/services that are adult only?

I mean it is people we deal with, department stores and box stores succeed because they offer a variety of items.. i mean look at the supermarkets, people go there for food but now you can buy stockings, drugs, magazines, do banking, etc... so why do we limit to just adult?

If its penis growth stuff, why not cologne too? shower needs?

Curious is all, but I'd be interested in hearing why those items get excluded.

True but where there is a will there is a way.

I mean why not set up your own non adult site... selling say men's cologne.. its non adult, and so approved by them and you simply link to your own non adult site from your porn area... you keep the traffic, the sales, the money...

open the buy link in a new window so the porn site stays open, let them shop in your non adult store, i mean we do that for the adult stuff, so why not the non adult?

Because for most people, this is to time consuming.. it really is that simple

in my experience, it is really hard to try and sell someone cologne or books or gambling when they are looking to get off on porn. the online casinos spent a ton of money a few years back on advertising on porn sites and just didn't see results. i think when people visit a porn site they pretty much have one thing in mind and shopping isn't it...

I would think that upselling is possible for any situation, it just depends on the marketing.

At Radio Shack, if a customer came in to buy a battery, we would still be expected to say talk to them about a new laptop or a cell phone. And you would make sales that way.

(this is when a handheld brick cellphone was $999)

For adult websites, I have payed attention to the gay gift stores/movie rental shops. What impulse items do they have on the counter?

However keep in mind that if you are trying to market your website via affiliate marketing, keep in mind that people like me will be reluctant to promote your site, send you traffic and image advertising so you can go sell them a bunch of products that cannot get credit for. There is a line between upselling and competing against your own affiliates.

If you want to sell cologne, vanity products, health protein powder or vitamins I would suggest looking at a few things. Pick a program with a long cookie duration, like 30 or 60 days. If someone on your site sees your ad for protein powders, they may click and look, and then a month later remember seeing them and go buy it. It is different then selling porn, when people want to immediately satisfy their carnal needs that same evening. Also for selling those things, I would pick an online merchant - not a brick and mortar store people can walk into. And a disproprotionate number of porn site vistors are non-US. Does your affiliate program sell to Canada or UK?

I have been experimenting with casino programs too off my adult site, not as much as I probably should. It is probably all about targeting properly for the consumer (or qualifying the customer as they call it). That is the genious behind Google AdSense - by contextually inserting ads, they are qualifying the customer right there.
