Lawrence Walters Appears To Have Been Hacked

Greetings All:

Ok, being the security nerd that I am, look what I just came across:

At the time I'm writing this, the site appears to have been hacked. This is the home of the famous first amendment attorney Lawrence Walters' "Birth Date Verifier" (as linked to from http://www.firstamendment.com/).

Just another example of information security being important, no matter WHAT your business is...

I am not sure if this hack was perpetrated through his age verifier script itself, or not. If it WAS, then there are a lot of adult websites in trouble right now, as many of them use his code.....

I'd be happy to do an audit of it for everyone if someone has it handy, assuming your license of it allows for such work being done...

I remember a while back when some others and I at the EFF were working on an age verification script to make available for all adult webmasters free of charge. I got an email from Mr. Walters stating that we might be "infringing" on his pending patent for age verification. Seems Larry was following in the footsteps of Acacia and patenting stuff, in this case adult verification on the internet, so that if you were trying to verify age, you would be infringing on his patent. Something like that anyway. So we stopped working on the scripts.

I think Hammer ended up posting one somewhere for everyone.

I wonder if Larry is going to try and track down and sue the hackers or take it on the chin and learn a lesson from the experience.

I think it's pretty lame he wants you to be a "client" of his to use the age verification script when you can get similar scripts, on a number of script websites, for free. :high:

Could you tell us the url of those free sites?? I have been looking for a script like that but have not found it yet...

Wow yeah it's been about a year and I've had a crash since then but

Here's one another one another real good one tons of info here

this one is the best from what I remember. The only thing is you need to tweak the variable for no entry. Currently if they just click enter it says older then 18. but if the input their age it verifies. Lee can tell you how to fix that bug I'm sure :high: you also need to change the variables of where the script goes when a good or bad date is entered.

A couple of the links don't work though...could you check them out! Yes, that attorney uses FEAR to gain a lot of clients...I have thought about consulting with him since I am in Miami and he is in Orlando (therefore close...PLUS very familiar with the laws of my state) but I get really turned off by his marketing methods!

I use the free age affirmation script I got at http://www.freesiteprofits.com/copa_compliance.html. I had to tweak it to make it work (which helped me learn javascript better!)

One marketing problem with the script is link list acceptance. Porn Vulcan turned down one of my submissions for using the age script. This may be a problem with some of the other large established "traditional adult" link lists.
