Branding > Affiliate Program Vs Paysites

Just wondered what you all thought of how the best method of branding a program is?

For example, lets say we operate the affiliate program, gwwcash.com and we have plans on launching say 5 paysites for this affiliate program, is it better to go with 'generic' domain names for the paysites or, would you go with something like gwwteens.com, gwwasians.com, gwwtwinks.com etc etc?

My thinking is that there are benefits and downfalls for each method, for example, doing the gwwniche.com method means that the second a site is mentioned on any boards, the affiliate program that owns the paysite is instantly recognizable whilst on the other hand, to a surfer, gwwniche.com means nothing.

So what do you think is the best method of branding for a new affiliate program?

    Regards,

    Lee

Hehe there are no wrong answers

Actually im not all that fond of hyphenated domains in fact, i think we own 2 hyphenated .coms and we'll be letting those expire in a month or so too

That was a good idea though and whatever we decide, we'll probably buy the hyphenated versions of the paysite domains anyway

I say name the program what you will and let the sites have their own, unattached identity. If a surfer didn't find what they wanted at another gww(fillintheblank) site, then stumbled upon another gww(fillintheblank) site, their previous experience with a GWW site will still be with them and affect their decission in purchasing a membership.

Any big corporation I've seen gives each entity it's own identity.

On the other hand my cockinporn series of sites all start with cockin and end in porn. I did this purely for SEO reasons. All the sites have the same theme - cock in porn, it's just which kind of cock you're interested in, straight cock, bisexual cock, gay cock, teen cock, etc. so it really doesn't apply to the business model being discussed. :high:

Mixing trade and consumer marketing is usually counterproductive. You have very different messages to deliver to your target audiences.

I would opt for generic names. Let's say a surfer joined gwwbears.com and hated it, thought it was the worst $24.95 he spent in his life. Later, he stumbles across gwwfetish.com and thinks, "I ain't doing that again."

Of course, it works in reverse to where a surfer who really likes a site may join another produced by the same webmaster or program. But aren't most people leaving programs because they're dissatisfied in some way: either the content wasn't being updated often enough, the inside didn't match the outside sales pitch, or they found something better. A surfer who loves your site isn't cancelling your membership unless you raise your prices or he loses his job.

So, I think marketing your sites with separate names with either give you the opporunity to get a customer back in and maybe turn them into a satisfied customer, or get them back in and simply get another $24.95 from them.

The sites that sell the best for me are the individual, stand-alone products. I don't sell big conglomerate-type programs with a dozen niche sites very well.

    Cheers
