GWW In 2005 - What Would You Like To See?

Well its nearing the end of the year and we are planning on developing the Gay Wide Webmasters community even further in 2005 including some innovative tools and resources to help you break in to the gay mainstream world however, we want to hear what the most important people on GWW want to have, i.e YOU.

So here is your chance to suggest some things we can add or change (if need be) to make GWW as a whole more useful to you and your business.

So lets hear your suggestions as to how GWW can be improved upon in 2005 :thumbsup:

I'm always looking for link exchange programs and things that will help my sites get spidered by search engines and building up backward links etc ...

as a resource you have a solid pr & good backward links ... it would be great if there was a way that you could pass some of that pr off to the members of the board through some kind of toplist or something?

i don't really have a clear idea of how to do it, i just know what i want ;-)

Actually we've been considering doing something like that for a while our only concern is that it would attract surfers to GWW and we dont want that to happen.

what if the toplist (not sure there would be enough traffic numbers) was just for webmaster sites?

i'm less interested in the traffic numbers and more interested in the links for spidering purposes so I guess I'm not really thinking in the bigger picture.

To ne honest with you, just by adding a link, the PR of GWW will be shared, we did some tests a few months back and it appeared at the time like any of the sites we linked to, whether they were brand new domains or not, were automatically a PR of [i beleive] 3.

This was for sites that were linked in both the GWW Directory itself and the sites we have linked at the base of the GWW community forums.

I say 'it appeared' as if we gave the PR3 because at the time, the only backlinks the sites we tested this with at the time had, were from GWW.

Im sure we'll be doing something to assist other gay marketers with gaining both additional PR for their existing sites as well as traffic in 2005, we just need to finalize what they will be.

We're currently working on several manstream projects which will also allow for adult related items to be included at a later stage of their development if needed

re the PR ... what about a webring?

i know the concept is a bit old school, but with a gww 'spin' it could work ...

webring can be presented in a few ways & has benefits

• the sites in it could have a badge on their webmaster site 'approved by gww' or something that gives their program credibility
• the webring 'next' 'back' 'all sites' links seem to pass pr well
• the parent site that lists all sites builds high pr quickly

http://www.purve.com/webring - this is a site i use for getting other sites spidered, it is the only backward link on many sites which have pr 3 & 4 - same as you were saying about gww, it seems to pass good pr but it only shows having about 7 backward links going to it. ?!?!?

google is a strange beast, but no matter what's changed our webring has always kept traffic and page rank - its been online for about 5 years on same directory - I ignored it for years, thought nothing of it, but i redesigned when i realized it had traffic LOL

i'll just keep throwing out random ideas until someone else comes up with a suggestion *hint hint everyone* LOL

I would love to see a database in which webmasters could log comments or rate programs and sponsors.

I don't know how you would achieve something like this that appeases both sides. When looking for a new sponsor I'd love to be able to look in the database and find out that Hunk Money or AWOLMarines were very responsive to e-mails and special requests, or that MANcheck always pays on time. Even being able to look in the database and see if a program has a representative on the board and what their nick and AIM screen name is.

Also, I'd like to know that a program is shady, or that they never reply to e-mails. I don't know how you keep this from becoming a tarring and feathering type of thing. We've all seen webmasters go off about something or other, and then, a program promoter is left scrambling to do damage control.

Everyone's program "converts like crazy" and "makes me butt loads of money." But I want the real deal.

I also wish we could get more people posting. We have so many new members joining each week and we never hear from them.

We actually have this functionality in the GWW directory at the moment we just choose not to utilize it however, as i have had several requests for something like this we may rethink the issue in the new year.

As it stands right now yes, that is all that is required however, the submission rules are going to be changing in the new year, for the simple fact that once many of these companies are listed, its the last we see of them and they remove their recip links despte the constant flow of highly targeted traffic we send them which is why we do regular monthly checks

Thats something that we are trying to work on however, overall the industry is quite simply put, not grown up enough for this to become a reality, most of the people who do register and then dont post do so because they have nothing of worth to contribute, many of the new users we get on a daily basis are nothing more than overpaid board whores who would dilute the business feel of the GWW community if they did start posting and that, is something that we are adamant we do not want to happen on GWW, we have always been and will continue to be a business orientated community, we have toyed with the idea of paying fo posts but again, that would severely damage the long term business goals of GWW overall in our opinion.[/quote]

Because despite the massive amount of business tools we offer webmasters on GWW in our opinion, there is always room for improvement which will ultimately benefit our community members.

The industry is as multi-faceted as our company and only by continually adapting to the innovations and changes in adult can a resource portal be of any use to the people who use it on a regular basis

One thing I'd like to see is a reduction in posts like the one below. They're few and far between but when they happen it's quite a shock and degrades the integrity of the board. IMO
