    Photographing your own content

    Hi all,

I'm sick and tired of not being able to find good quality bear and hairy man content. And I'd chop off an arm for skinhead photo sets. So the waiting game is over, my partner purchased a camera yesterday and we're off an running.

It'll be a couple of months before we're actually ready to shoot a model, but we've got some things to figure out. A couple of questions spring to mind, which could prove for some interesting discussion.

    1. Lee suggested I get cards printed up and leave them in the washroom at my favourite bar, etc. Do you think it's a good idea to put my website URL on the card, directing them to a page of more information for models. Or is this a bad idea?

    2. Should I put e-mail only on the card? Seems to me if I put a phone number I could be getting jerk off calls at 2 a.m.

    3. If you have cards, where have you placed them that got you some good results?

    Thanks
    Dzinerbear

    1) At this point, where you are in the game, I wouldn't put the URL of a porn site on your card. I would have a business domain that looked professional where they could apply to be a model on the site, but I wouldn't link to any of your sites there.

    2) Put your number on the card. They need to call you and know this is for real. Very few will take the time to goto a computer ( if they have one ) and send you an email request for more info. Get a cheap prepaid phone, have a professional message on it and turn it off after hours if you're not in the mood that day to jerk off to a hot bear late night jerkoff call :-D

    3) The best results I've gotten with cards is when I've placed one in the hand of a hot model. Face to face recruiting really works. If you don't want to recruite, get a good talker who can recruit and give him a commission per model. Instead of just a card at a bar you like, I'd put up a small flyer with a pic of a hot bear saying something like "Filming hot sessions now, want to join in? Instant pay. Flexible schedule. All types. Work for everyone." Guys you are not interested in you can put on the back burner.

A couple other tips. Make sure you return the calls you get and make an appointment either the same day or within 2 days. The longer you take, the more chance the person might chicken out. Make sure your model release forms look professional. You can dress casual at the interviews if you want because it's porn, but the paperwork is a sign of your professionalism. If you can, rent an office space to do interviews and schedule them all the same day at that location. That when, when someone doesn't show up, you wont be stuck waiting long. Doing interviews at a restaurant, or in a hotel room, are the worst scenarios, but they do work if an absolute must.(except for at home)

    Hope this helps :-D

Oh boy, I probably should keep my mouth shut on this one as I'm new and all but I'm a girl and that's just not possible. hehehe

Have you thought about putting a little blurp on your website like,"think you have what it takes to be a UniversalBear model, drop us a line at models@universalbear.com" or something like that?
Or is that considered cheesy? Let me know as I plan on adding that to my site this week when it's redesigned.

The card thing is a great idea. I have condoms that I affixed stickers of my logo that say, "courtesy of MegaHung.COM" and my cousin (Daniel) hands them out for me when he's out clubbing. He's a little cutie so I get a lot of type in traffic that I attribute to him.

    Just my .02 cents.

a couple of other places I'd suggest are wherever there are dudes who need quick cash but don't want to commit to full time jobs ...

backpackers hostels are great - sign on the noticeboard should get you started.

also universities are another good location but you may struggle to find one who gives you permission to stick up porn flyers LOL

You do realize by 'gay' I mean a man who has sex with other men?

Good feedback in here so far

You might also want to try running a few two line ads in your local newspapers classified section, a well worded, well placed classified ad can pull in a lot of interest if done in the right publication

    Regards,

Hi Michael, good luck in your new adventure, it's pretty much all fun except when you're waiting for models who don't show up. hehe

Anyway, about putting cards in clubs/bars... just be careful. Last year, we went to a club (gay club) and put cards on the counter, bathroom... 2 days later, we received a call from the club telling us we didn't have the right to do that, and that their advertisers could sue us for whatever reasons. Hopefully, we never got anything else from it, and now i'm only putting them where i know the club managers, or at least you should ask for the permission.

I thought it was just that easy but it's not. Just my 2 cents.

One of my biggest source is gay.com chat room. Just log in one of room in your area. It works very good for us.

Well, I have been in the internet porn biz 4 years, as a model, a producer, run a webcam, etc. I never have trouble recruiting models, I meet them everywhere. I do have a business card with my phone and email and domain on it. I definitely do require a copy of the model's ID for age verification, and have them sign a release.

Porn stars are crazy. They dont stick around, they take the money and go buy drugs. And on the day they leave you, it is then good to have that signed model release, cause the last thing they always say to you is, "And take my pictures off your website!!"

Been there, done that, don't wear the T-shirt.
