    Hispanic, latin, mexican, etc... terminology

I have this Mexican site and I've realized not all of the models are actually Mexicans! This could be a problem.

After some research, let me see if I understand this correctly.

Hispanic sites cover the Spanish speaking people in general. Could be Latin American or Spaniard models.

Latin/Latino sites cover anyone from Latin America. So a Latin site could have models from Mexico, Ecuador, Puerto Rico, etc..., but not Spain.

Mexican technically would be country specific, as would Cuban and Puerto Rican. So these sites would be sub-niches of Latino sites.

    grrrr

Would it really be totally out of line to have non-Mexican Latins on a Mexican site?

.... or would it be like setting up an American site and having Canadians on it? I know nobody cares about that.

If someone says they want a Mexican, do they care if they get a Puerto Rican? I am not familiar enough with these communities to know.

    My thoughts

Yes, if you are marketing your site to that small of a niche then your members WILL CARE. There are lots of sites that do Latinos and thier members expect to have models from all over Central and South America BUT if you actually say you have Mexicans then you should give your members what they expect or they will NOT remain members long.

    Hope that helps.

yeah.. don't try to fool your members.. they'll revolt.

    And you don't want that.

If you say "Mexican", they gotta be Mexican.

Our site latinjocks.com has latin guys from all over the world. So I don't think latin/latino only means Latin American.

Our retention is pretty high for our members area is why it's leading me to believe that latin, latino, bilatino, and the like can pretty much mean men from all areas of the world that come from a Spanish speaking background, and not really for a specific land mass.

I do agree that if you are marketing to a specific niche in the over all latin umbrella, then yes, your members would be pissed to find out the models aren't from the country advertised.
You'll get more with a kind word and a 2 by 4 then you'll get with just a kind word.
