Most absurd word in gay ... well every porn!

It's the word FREE... and I really hate it when it's used on the pay sites or those that sell AVS membership... I mean, one thing is to say "Free with your membership to...." (but it's still not free), while another thing is to say "Free Pictures" and when you click on them you have to login with ID or username or whatever...

    I'm only wondering:

a.) Are porn users so bloody horny at that point that they just don't care how they screw them?

b.) Are webmasters really that naive?

There must be a reasonable use for word Free, but not in the way most of webmasters do

The only time I have ever used this word is in relation to a TGP or alternatively once they are inside an AVS/AVN site as a link to bonus sponsor hosted galleries which is legitimate in my view anyhow(most of the time I prefer stuff like bonus or extra or special).

    What do you guys think?

    Cheers,

    Allan

I dont know if it sells, Kind of tends to condition the surfer to expect free stuff without having to pull the card out

    Greetings:

Hrm. Only place I use it that I could find is "Free Tour", and in conjunction with the "Free Bonus" sites that we offer with membership.

"Free Tour", not exactly sure why we even went with that, other than that's what everyone else uses, and it's something that the surfer quickly recognizes as the "start here" link so to speak.

I can tell you one thing, the word "free" is an evil, evil, evil thing when used in PPC ads. Learned that one the hard way

dalimili - FREE doesn't sell for me(unless promoting a free avs), but it sure gets lots of clicks. i DO use FREE TOUR on a few galleries, but not too many.

mostly i think everyone using FREE so much has desensitized the surfers to things because they read it so often, only to find when they click it that nothing there is really free.

but hey, we all market in our own ways!

    Just a question to replies:

a.) Aren't TOURS by default Free? Does anyone charge for a tour?

b.) I'd like to know which AVS offers totally free membership? I haven't found any so far...

This is rather my toughts from the point of a surfer; I never ever ever click on a thing that says FREE because in 99% it is actually PAY ME.

So basically I feel this word should be totally banned and replaced with SAMPLES or something similiar... "View some Sample pics"

I know I never try to implement a word free anywhere in the site

sexkey used to be free - don't know if it still is. if you cancel within three days, you pay nothing and keep your membership for a year.

tours are free, but the word free grabs the eyes before reading the rest of the sentence. we are far from the only industry to use FREE that way.

putting "View samples pics" and then sending someone to a tour is as useless as using the word FREE. both are blind links, which rarely make any money.

never judge all surfers by yourself, and certainly don't ask us to judge them by you. i can tell you for sure that the word FREE can increase clicks quite dramatically.

if you don't know how to use it, it won't work as well. but if you do galleries with the exact same words on the links, except for the word free NOT all over it, but only used judiciously and well, you should see similar results.

of course, if you use it sarcastically, or without planning, it may not work as well.

LOL! The surfers know what FREE means when it comes to adult websites. :fire: Same as I know that a FIRE SALE is staged and could become an annual event in AnyTown, USA.

I use Mansites (aka Sex Key) AVS for one of my sites that I promote as One Year Free. The surfer does have to cancel a certain part of the membership within 3 days to prevent from being billed, then must cancel the full membership within a year to prevent from being billed. So in a sense, it IS free at which point I have no trouble marketing the site that way

Yes, the word FREE works well when marketed well, but is a bit over used...i.e. Free tour, free pics, free downloads, a free movie (2 min tops) and etc...

I dislike the word "Free", however...I mean, in some ways it tends to make surfers look "only" for free stuff...then some are less likely to pull their cc out.

On the other hand, surfers that want "quality" will look for quality sites and pay for what they think will be good.

That being said, lets face it...there really is a load of stuff out there that IS Free...I know people used to be able to go on Yahoo and watch guys jack off on cams all day, if that's what they wanted...

What do you really think brings a surfer to your site and makes them join though? I seriously think it's not the word "Free".
