Different billing options? What's wrong with mobile?

ok.... basically I was thinking about this for quite a long time and I'm sure many others have at least tought about it but never saw anyone using it....

Anyway... here's my question.... Why on earth I have never came across a website that would use SMS billing ? Is it because there are no companies that support it?

I mean ... from my point of view paying with your mobile is much easier and since it is beeen used (at least in the country I live in) for paying anything: from tickets, to music, on gas stations, online newspapers and in many regular shops I can't see any good reason why it wouldn't in a way be substitute to credit cards and their regulations?

Anyone has any info or idea if this will be used in near future?

i dont think the US providers support it yet.

plus, my question is... how is that safe for age verification? my 10 year old cousin has a cell phone... every kid i see at the mall has a cell phone...

its a good idea, but i think in the end it'll open up a whole can of worms

Ofcourse... I guess this mobile stuff is quite connected with the US market.... hopefully someone will soon realize full potential of it....

On the other hand... what's gonna stop your cousin from stealing credit card from daddy's wallet, use it and put it back?

That's a good point. But, it's eaiser to have asscess to something that's already is in one's possession.

But, if daddy leaves his cc in a place so Jr can take it...it's dads fault in a big way.

On the other hand, anyone in the US under 18 can't enter into a contract and has to have their parents get them the cell phone in the first place.

I think the cc co's need to come up with better fail safe way of preventing cc theaft anyway. (And, I hear they are working on some pretty neat stuff now)

As far as mobile usage, I know quite a few really stupid parents that let their kids run amuck with their cell phones. They get bills that are into the 100's of dollars just from their kids bs'ing with their friends.

Parents that don't watch their kids phone useage and internet actions are just asking for it. Then again, the parents want to blame the webmasters. Too bad they've made it so webmasters have to baby sit for them in the long run.

I don't know... is this just my point of view... but....

When the heck did the porn webmasters become parents?? I mean is this suddenly our business or parents?

So basically noone has any clue if there is a firm that deals with online mobile payments for large account of countries?

I hear ya bud...but, that's the way it's been for a long time now. We have to protect our own asses from the "ignorant" breeders.

nothing is wrong with mobile billing, it is a viable up-and-coming solution. The only small issue is that mobile phones are not as common in the USA as they are in EU / AU / Asia and so are not as matured in their dealings, so billing to US based mobile accounts is a bit more of a challenge for sms billing companies.

    cheers,
    Luke

Yeah, I guess we'll have to wait untill most of the Americans get mobiles.... hurry guys

But seriously, I hope someone out there is thinking about this option for NON-US members, as we all know that European customers are not as keen on paying by credit cards... and basically there are no alternatives, except "to mail the money"... so it surprises me that no AEN or bigger pay site is not accepting this option for non-us clients (as an alternative to cc)

We actually met with a phone company that wanted to do this in the United States. But what scared them was the fact that if the person paid by credit card - then that would, in essence, make the mobile phone company an adult processor and they did not like that press.

We explained to them that they could get an account off-shore, not worry about the registration fee, etc - but they still opted out of it

I came across a site quite a few months back that was planning to offer this, or did offer it, but it would take 6 months for the webmaster to receive funds so it didn't seem viable to me.

i've been told that the telcos for sms billing pays out between 45 and 150 days after the calls were made, depending on country. that means if they decide to stop paying (as happened with many dialer and other phone solutions), you will miss a lot of money. 150 days of money is no joke - and no doubt a lot of people who call will claim they didn't, and someone used their phone.

Ok, this 150 days of payout is quite ... well... not reasonable and probably varies as for instance the company that already offers this kind of billing (online, stores, gas stations) in my country, pays you your money 20 days after the 1st pay period ended.

but regarding the billing itself alone I was more thinking of sending an SMS to a certain number, and that SMS would cost let's say $ 2 for one day access. After your SMS has been sent, you receive a reply with your one day password with which you then enter the site.

"and no doubt a lot of people who call will claim they didn't, and someone used their phone."

well this could apply also to Credit cards, 1800 billings, hotlines etc. There are always going to be people claiming that someone used their this and that

no telco pays sooner than 45 days, that 150 days was the longest countries. that being said, the sms billers don't pay you the minute they get their wire transfers from the telcos, either.

and actually dialers and other phone payment systems have MUCH MUCH higher numbers of people who claim someone else made the charge. the reason should be obvious - any friend in your house has access to your phone. your kids have access to your phone, the dog walker has access to your phone. most people leave their phones lying around. a lot less people leave their wallet or credit card lying that obviously around.

the chargebacks in our industry for cc use is 1% or under for most sites. i hear chargebacks on dialers started out at 15% and ended up at 40% in the u.s.

Man that really sucks! I just cancelled my 900 billing a few weeks back because of a few "fraudulent" charges.

People will goto extreme lenghts to get free porn and we pay the price... idiots.
