When You Join A New Affiliate Program Do You...

Try to get the same wm link code id wherever possible?

For example, if your account name is 'test' do you prefer it if your link code looks something like this..

    http://www.domain.com/affiliate.php?test

I know a few sponsor programs make your login username the same as your tracking id but just wondered if anyone actually preferred them to be the same or, different.

    Regards,

    Lee

Well for myself I'd prefer the login username/ID scenario on one hand, simply because its easier to remember but thinking of security that would give any potential hacker half the code to login to my account so I suppose in a compromise I'd go for a different ID than the login simply to protect my ass (except from the wife of course  )

These are kind of different things. If you are asking for the ability to select a username for your affiliate account, which you can use to log in and see your statistics, get banners, etc - that is preferable to being assigned some auto-generated account name or number.

As for the linking code.... we typically just build pages, put in the code, and leave it for a good long while. It's ok if it complicated... the important thing is that we be able to link to inside pages.

I don't really like the idea.

I've joined a number of programs that use that type of a referal link and I always get this surprise when it happens becuase I wasn't expecting to see my login username as my affiliate tracking id.

Part of reason or another reason why I don't like it, is because the tracking link looks too much like an affiliate tracking link.

I honestly don't care one way or the other. Just as long as it tracks my clicks and sales. One thing that I really don't like is the programs that give you the really long linking codes.
You'll get more with a kind word and a 2 by 4 then you'll get with just a kind word.
