I have a friend in NYC who is currently looking for work in the adult industry. He's got extensive crew work experience in theatre and is a whiz at technical things. He also gives a mean haircut! So, the question is. Where should he start looking? Would it be out of place for him to hit the webmaster boards? Or are there resource sites he should look up?

He should do both.
Check out the various boards available and the resources especially ones with articles / tutorials on them.
Of course he is already in a better position than most 'newbies' are because he knows someone in the industry already.. you, at least you will be able to assist him and educate him when something isnt 'right'
