I don't understand this!

Howcome people keep throwing gay marriage in my face? Why is their argument ALWAYS "If we change laws for gay men, we also have to for child molestors" ?? What in the world do these two things have to do with each other? What do the rights of two concenting adults have to do with the rights of someone who inflicts harm on a child? I will never for the life of me understand this!

The only response I ever get when this drives me nuts is "Come on...you KNOW I'm right" but..how can that be right? How can the average person still be this stupid? Have we really fucked up evolution and natural selection THAT much? How does anyone with even half a brain keep any kind of faith or positive feelings about their country or their species, or hope for their planet at all?

Is this why stupid people who can't think for themselves win? I can see how people with any sense would get so discouraged and give up, but stupid people with false convictions can go on forever, they could never believe anything but they want to believe. How can anything good, decent, or right ever win?

Basicly what I am asking is, do you think we are totally fucked, and doomed to a loss of free will, a real life 1984? Or do we still have hope?

There's definately hope! You brought a lot of good points up. We aren't totally fucked, or partially fucked. This is life as an adult. An awakening to what forces exist in our society and what power they have, and what power we have.

Everyone wants what they think is best. The balance of power shifts and we do what we can to make sure what we believe in is represented justly. To live life without passion is to be a slave to your surroundings.

They compare us to child molesters, because it's the worst thing that they can think of... the reasoning is that homosexuality and paedophilia are both sexual diseases... because all gay couples do is have sex, you know.

But really, the reason is that once gay people are equal to them, they're going to be better than nobody.

And that scares them.

It's also because of religion. My mom would walk off a cliff if the priest told her to. I'm not being snippy, I've seen her do totally irrational things simply because the priest in her church told her to. A lot of people don't like to think for themselves, they like to be led, and sadly the religious right are more than happy to lead them. Hate gay people or burn in hell, and if you feel bad because the gay people you meet are really nice people, you have to rationalize your hatred of them because you are not allowed to love them.

I think Don has hit it square on the head. It isn't that people hate us or want to, it is that they prefer to abdicate their rights, to have someone else do their thinking for them because it is so much easier than to actually think for yourself.

It is always easier to blame someone else for failure than yourself. It is why abnormal behaviour is blamed on the violence in video games or on television or now on porn online... it is simply a way to make them look in the mirror and not throw up, after all it isn't their fault that they didn't supervise little johnny or suzie, it was those wicked porn people or todays flavour of the month, the gays.

People need to start accepting responsibility for themselves and actually making their own decisions, not what some yahoo in a cassock says or some pin striped buffon.
