    I Wonder? Porn Music

I know I've posted about this before, I got a lot of optimistic emails and enquiries, but it lead knowhere. I thought it might be worth one more shot.

I am a fanatical musician (if what I make can be called music), it's one of my passions and I would love to be able to get some of my songs out there. It's mostly progressive house, trance, and electro. I think it would be one of the coolest things ever to hear my music in an adult movie. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to break into this? I would practicly give the songs away, just for the excitement of something creative I made actually being deemed worth a shit by someone besides me.

We buy/license porn music for our videos, usually techno/trance rhythms without a lot of melody. Some rock rhythms, too. Producers are always looking for this material, as it's difficult to find. Every single composer we've talked to over the years was a flake, tho... no one could even come up with a sample track. But we'd certainly be interested if you can work up some samples. Right now there are two composers I know of who actually do music just for porn:

    www.adultindustrymusic.com

    www.barreparts.com

AIM might even be interested in re-selling your stuff.

Thanks for the reply citiboyz. It dosn't look like aim has had anything new to offer for long time though, and they are a bit expensive. Have you ever noticed their songs being overused in a lot of productions? Do you think most people are interested in exclusive rights to use a song, or do they care? What would you say would be a decent price per song? If I could find a way to network with movie producers who need music, they could give me an idea of the kind of songs they are looking for for a particular movie, and I could compose original tracks just for that production.

Here are a couple of samples:
    Trance Sample

    Electro Sample

    Electro Sample

    Electropop/Club Sample

I'd love to hear what you think, and don't be afraid to tell me if you don't like them I have some newer, better samples too, just waiting to get my new P3 tomorrow. I haven't bothered installing my hard drive in this old P1.

By the way, I have enough sense to not rip off anyone elses songs, in whole or in part, so these and all of my songs are 100% original. Plus, I trimmed off a couple of the longer tracks, so don't be surprised if the song ends abruptly. I believe these are in 128 quality, but finals are in 190 (cd quality)

We also use music in our DVDs, though generally only in the intros and menus, not in the actual scenes. (I'm told there are several surveys of consumers of porn that claim that better than 70-80% of people don't want music). Probably similar styles to what Steve uses, but in very small doses and usually just very short loops.

We've licensed from Shockwave-sound.com, which has a pretty wide collection of stuff that's pretty cool... but it's expensive. And we've worked with a couple of composers, but had results similar to Steve.

So yes, we'd also be interested in looking at what you have. We're on deadline for some projects, so may not get time until after Phoenix Forum, but AJ and I wi'll give a listen to your stuff and see if there's a match...

shockwavesounds only lets you sell up to 500 videos or dvds with their songs in them, without paying extra, so that sucks. I can definately do short clips, and some really great loops for menus, and much cheaper than ss. If you and AJ are interested at all, I can get you exclusive loops, any style you want, custom made, for $10 unlimited usage. If that is too much, make an offer.
I would probably do something like ask you what you are looking for each time, make 5-10 clips, and let you pick which ones you like. I'd only need a couple days advance notice, once I start on a music project I don't stop until it's done.

Would it make sense for me to hope dvd/video credits listed me? Maybe that would give me some great exposure and more business.

It's really only a hobby, I'm not out to make good money, I'm not even good enough to make good money , but I'm constantly writing music so why not do something fun with it right?

One more ps . If anyone reads this and is interested, and you decide to have me produce some custom music for you, then don't want it, I'm not gonna get mad or start flamewars or any crap like that, like I said I ENJOY writing music so it's no big deal.

Hey DigitalJay, cool stuff, man. I've done several scores for a company called EI Cinema, it was all girl-on-girl-for-straight-guy softcore, but it was fun. It started as a favor to a friend and by now I've done about 7 titles for them. I've kicked around the idea of making a site and offering music to license. Maybe one hub site with various musicians so you get a lot of backing for promotions instead of doing it all yourself. What do you think?

    To all parties:

As a movie reviewer, I'll tell ya - if a film has a musical accompanyment that augments the scenes, it adds immeasurably. I see movies that miss the mark on this all the time. And I will think, this could have been much better with some music.

Now I'm not looking for Giorgio Moroder here.... but just something stylized and simple can ratchet up a fair scene several notches to something really good.

Good music almost always gets a mention in my reviews. A studio that utilizes this well is Raging Stallion. Their movies always have great music. Even their fisting movies have a soundtrack! But more than anything it adds to their product's unique look and feel.

Nobody realizes this, but one reason those old 1980s William Higgins movies (the young and the hung, etc) were so good was that music by Costello Presley. So DigitalJay I would definitely email studios, maybe include samples. Offer something on spec perhaps.....

To movie producers, the extra time and expense for music is worth every penny. Just my two cents...

    -Steve

That sounds great, do you think I would be good enough to feature on it? I have a lot of free time, so the more work I could get providing studios with original soundtracks, the better.

Thanks for the advice. I did offer a special though, exclusive rights to original compositions, cheap. Maybe I'm too optimistic, but I don't think it's impossible that I could ever create something with mainstream success. That would make owning exclusive rights to earlier compositions worth something.

I have loads of lyrics and complete songs, all I'm missing is someone with a great voice.

Ok, I finally got my new computer all setup, and all my digital audio production software. It was a mess, I went and bought a used computer without asking for the driver cds. I got that fixed though, and I'm in love. It's a P3 600mhz with 256mb, dvdrom, cd burner, and my favorite part, a 19" monitor! This is by far the nicest computer I've ever had, and I think I deserve it. Now just cross your fingers that it dosn't implode within a few months like my computers all have a habit of doing.

So anyway, today is going to be all about setting up a website with an artist bio and digital song clips, so everyone can get a clearer idea of what my songs sound like. Check back on this thread later today for the url.

Thanks everyone who responded and encouraged me to do this, I think it will be an awesome way to share my music, and take an active, productive role in the adult industry.

oooh Scorpio, I just spit orange juice all over my new monitor when I read the line under your name! That's funny shit. I was thinking about you while I was making this site, I just used a crummy template I made for v1 of my clothing store. I was thinking how great it would be if I could comission some designs from you. Someday I'll be able to, and I hope you'll have some time for me when that happens.

Thanks for the encouragement, and I will definately post the url soon. It's almost done. All my old compositions are on hard drives burried in boxes here and there, so I have to start from scratch. Luckily, I love writing music so it's a project that'll keep me very entertained, no more spider solitaire. :p
