And before anyone replies with the obvious "yes, you can sell anything" I'll throw in this:
Do you think you can sell a site without video and get less than 1:300 conversion... and actually do well with it? ie: retain.
I think a site that was very niche or model specific and a good amount of exclusive content would sell with just pics. Might be tougher on the sale if it's a "general" porn category where videos would be "expected".
none of my avs sites have video, and they sell fine. the question is will a site with no video retain?
as i've posted before, last year a ccbill rep told me the name of their best-retaining site. it's a mature site featuring LOTS of pics - including reader's wives and amateur grandmas sort of thing - and the site has very very little video - but it does have some.
i see 20 - 30% of our users play the smaller dialup clips in our member areas. SOME video allows for a little variety, and a feeling of intimacy from hearing the voices of models.
And The "Theoretical" Answer Is!...It Depends What The "Pics" Are ( Nude Pics Of Brad! , Keanu! , Affleck! ) Of Course Me Personally , I'd Rather Have The Video!

IMHO, it would have to have exclusive content that gets updated very frequently plus have a huge selection to get away with no videos.

Boyfunk had no video for the first 6-9 months and still doesn't have tons and tons, but it seems that if we update pretty regularly, we still get pretty good retention. On the other hand, we're regularly told that the quality of our models is a large part of why our members like us so much and why they stay... so I dunno.
how long ago was boyfunk's first 6 - 9 months?
Video is definitely a plus, but there are so many niches that are underexposed, that a high quality pic only site could do very well.

I think its very hard to sell sites without Video, and even hard to sell sites without live content. There are so many sites out there now inless it was some very exclusive content, I think it would be very hard.
Now In All Fairness! , I Have To Admit That Some "Pic-Only" Sites Can Survive On "Pics" Alone! , Well At Least I'm Still A "Member"! ( I'm Not Only A Producer I'm A Consumer! )
The Two Mentioned Are Quite Different From Each Other , I Like The Photography Of Both , But One Has The Scenic Views And The Other Has "The Boy Next Door"
I Don't Like To Make References Here "Directly" , And This Is Not An "Advertisment" , Just Wanted To Show Some "Examples" Of "Pic-Sites" Other Than "Mega" Which Are Holding Their Own.

For the record, its not hard to sell sites without video in them at all.
How many of you have actually looked at some of the larger sponsors paysites? Very few of them actually contain 'videos' in them, in fact, when a site mentions 'videos' or 'movies' on a tour, that usually translates into 'plugin'

well, to be fair, it was early 2003, and I know the market is a lil different now
