WTF? Is The Adult Industry Killing Blogs?

I saw a review of a thread topic on another board and it caught my eye.

With everyone (it would seem) in the adult industry starting their own blog to get surfer traffic which, is ultimately sent off to their adult sponsors, do you think we are going to kill off the effectiveness of blogs?

To me, it seems like we are doing with blogs, what happened with TGP's several years ago, everyone jumped on the TGP bandwagon and now TGP traffic has dwindled and been diluted to almost worthless. Is the same going to happen to blog traffic?

Just out of interest, how many of the GWW community members have their own blog that they use to send their surfers to adult paysites?

If you have your for longer than a year, have you noticed your conversion ratios from the blog traffic slipping as your site visitors get higher?

    Your thoughts?

    Regards,

    Lee

To me blogs are something totally un-necessary... I don't get them... I don't get the people who read those blogs and I certainly don't get the people who write them...

I'm not even sure what's their purpose in adult industry...

Blogs Remind Me Of These "Scratch-Books" We Had In High School Where We Would Write A Question..."When Was Your First Time , Describe?"...And Everyone You Passed It To Would Write Something In It "Annonomously" , It Made For Some "Interesting Reading" If Of Course You Have The Time To Read.
I See Blogs Everywhere And Other Than The "Porn Star" Ones I Barely Have Time To Read It All.
I'm Not Going To Totally Rule Out Blogs , They Appeal To The Consumer On A Personal Level Giving Them Something To "Identify" With ( Oh Yeah! , I've Done That! ) , Also Some Find The "Erotic Writings" Stimulating Especially If It Comes From The Pages Of Their Favortie Porn Star About His Most "Intimate Moments"...Time For A Shower!

Well I have been toying with the idea of doing a blog, but to be honest, I just don't get them. Seems in many ways they are a slimmed down forum and given how easy it is to install a forum, i just don't get sites who do that other than for the SE traffic..

...and don't Google own or recently buy out a big blog operation? If so, don't expect blogs to diminish too quickly. Wonder if Yahoo and MSN will also jump on that bandwagon? If so, then perhaps the traffic will be less productive though I have to say that TGP traffic isnt all that bad. A lot still depends I think on what the traffic winds up at, if its crap then the surfer doesn't join, but is that from the source of traffic or simply that perhaps over time the surfer has gotten smarter and more selective?

just my scotch soaked opinion.. (the fumes could kill I tell ya)

If you read about it on the boards, ITS TOO LATE!

Porn blogs (fake life journals... whatever) are actually nothing new. Various formats of them date back at least 9 years.

I'm sure some people make money with them though, but the time invested into it must be huge.

Of course. The adult industry kills just about everything it touches. Take for example, e-mail and how full of adult spam it is, pop-up windows (the most hated thing on the planet), "free porn." We eventually kill everything.

TGPs are approaching the end of their life cycle. Video on Demand will be the next big thing to hit the dirt, in my opinion. It might take a couple of more years, but with everyone and his brother opening up a VOD theatre system, it won't be long.

You know i think that about sums it up perfectly.

This is even more apparent with so many 'adult' webmasters trying to branch out in to 'mainstream' webmastering, pretty soon the net will be nothing but a clusterfuck of people trying to make a dime off everyone else LOL

Well if someone runs a blog that pertains to the adult industry, it would be effective if they make it so. I do not see how the overall number of blogs on a particular subject really matters.

I do wish that Google would adjust its ranking algorithm so that thinly-written blogs and message boards cease elbowing out old-fashioned actual HTML pages with written articles and lengthy essays on them. I have a candle burning in the window right now representing my hopes that day arrives soon.

Actually this is not so much a problem with FriskyFans, for me. But I encounter the often with my cooking site. They need to compensate this, and weigh it accordingly. MSN and Yahoo does not have this problem.

    Absolutely.

It used to be i could submit a gallery to the top 5 TGPs on my submissions list and convert on a sponsor such as maxcash @ 1:75 (MAX) nowadays, webmasters are doing very well if they convert at 1:500 on TGP traffic with the same sponsors they used 3 or 4 years ago.

Of course, 'todays' adult webmaster doesnt realize this because they werent around when the 'golden age' of porn was nearing its end and they think that 1:500 - 1:2000 is acceptable for TGP conversions. Which to be fair, by todays standards, is acceptable but go back 3 or 4 years and you'd be told you were doing something wrong with conversions ovr 1:500.

    Regards,

    Lee

I was told by someone that I should start building TGP's. Do you think that they are still worth it? I mean, they might not convert like they used to but are they still a good traffic source?

Yes, TGP submissions are worthwhile if a conversion ratio of 500+ is worth the time and effort spent to you. It's free advertising, other than the cost of any additional paid content.

Is the adult industry spoiling blogs? Perhaps any marketer, adult or regular, spoils a tool like a blog if the blog adds no real value for the user. I ran across a PR 5 blog this week that stopped new entries last summer. The blog author found hundreds of marketing/spam (adult and regular) comments to her last entry, so she just turned off the add function.

I do a once in a while blog at livejournal.com mostly announcing what's going on with my websites and any big personal changes. I don't think it gets much traffic.

    not really

I think what would happen is the better blogs would rock and would have a lot more people visiting thanks to the shitty blogs cause people won't go around looking knowing they'll most likely find nothing
