    Good Shit Your Thoughts?

Is the gay community in general more accpeting of 'porn' than in the straight world?

My personal feelings are that it is, erotica seems to be everywhere these days especially on tv commercials however, erotica in the gay community, to me, seems to be much more prevallent and 'in your face'.

I cant think of the last time i picked up a gay magazine like the Gay Times etc, that didnt have at least a page full of half naked guys in it yet, when looking at magazines catering to the straight lifestyles, it seems nudity, for the most part, is a lot tamer.

Your thoughts on this? Is the 'mainstream' gay community a lot more open to 'porn' than its straight counterpart and, why do you think that is or isnt?

    Regards,

    Lee

    well yeah

I was going to say the gay mags are full of erotica, but I'm not sure which sector of the gay community they're shooting for, or at least their appeal isn't broad.

But yes sex to us is much less taboo than on the other side

In my experience (which may be askew from living in West Hollywood) when I tell people I work in the adult industry they usually reply with a "hey, that's cool" kind of attitude. In the straight community, I've gotten mixed reactions from people who thought it was cool, to people who thought it was funny to people who were totally put off by it. I think a lot of gay people had to learn about sex and sexuality from adult movies and adult websites because, let's face it, they didn't have gay sex ed in schools, so we are not as shocked as the people who's parents sat them down and told them about the birds and the bees. Maybe it also has to do with the fact that gay men can watch porn and relate a bit more with the guys in the videos while straight guys are usually more centered on the woman in the videos, so it's more of a fantasy thing. I don't know. I'm rambling. I had a point in there somewhere, but I think I lost it. LOL!

I do think the gay community is more accepting of porn, but I also think it is a generational thing. For example, my 2 siblings that are closest to my age think it's pretty cool and the other 2 much older siblings don't understand and/or hate what I'm doing.

Btw, I was talking to my brother on the phone this weekend. I was trying to explain exactly what it is I do (AVS sites). And out of nowhere, he asks me if it's like BadPuppy, . And yes, he is straight... 2 kids and married for 20 years. But he is an avid porn surfer. Way to go BadPuppy! Even straight guys have heard of you!

In general I would say yes. However, I'm running into a lot of gay guys that are total prudes when it comes to porn; their age groups are pretty diverse too -- Young, Middle Age, And Older Folk. And then there's the giggly embarressed guys --- oooh you do porn? yeah I sometimes look at that, *blush*, *giggle*...

not sure about "accepting" but i think alittle more "agressive" especially in advertising!
i was recently hired by the "christian coalition for moral order" to do a couple of church promotionals! :goof:

yeah I think so too. I think its just more common for gay people to explore sex in many different ways and places (you never hear of a straight bath house) and that all adds to a more liberal attitude towards porn.

There's an article in this month's hardcopy of Klixxx - with Rainey's commentary about this very topic. Maybe she'll drop in and give an overview.

Society has become more tolerant of sexuality though they are just starting to catch up to us. In the pre-Stonewall days more dramatically to today where anti-legislation seems to be a hobby of this congress, our sexuality has meant that many things most people take for granted from the right to marry to a career, a job, housing, children, worship...the fear and/or reality that our sexual preference prevents some things or can, if discovered, meaning some things can be lost looms large. The one thing that can never be taken away is our sexuality. No wonder we embrace it. In his book The Homosexual Matrix, author C A Tripp also hypothesized this could be what fuels are generally higher rate of sexual promiscuity among gay men. Food for thought

I think the biggest thing that separates gay men from straight men is that we cannot have children through our sexual contact with other men. This gives us a freedom that straight men do not enjoy.

It also seems that men are more capable of having anonymous, quick sex than women. Sex seems to be much more of an emotional act for women requiring a lot more energy. This gives us freedom.

There are also issues around safety. A gay man can meet someone online and invite them over for sex. Women are less likely to engage in such activity until they've gotten to know the guy a bit better. (Although I recently heard a news report of a gay man who did this very thing and ended up in a heap of trouble when a couple of people showed up. He was beaten, restrained, and robbed. However, far fewer men are raped by men than women, so for most of us, it's not even a passing thought.)

Also, the other thing straight men have going against them as far as Internet porn is concerned is wives who may be checking credit card statements. That's not to say that many gay men have totally accepting partners where porn is concerned, but again, I think it's vastly different for gay men.

    Cheers
