    Internet in LA?

So I'm moving into my own place in LA... it's sorta like that season of Laverne and Shirley without Shirley.

OK.. so me and Don have Adelphia at our place, but I don't know what I should get at my new place...it's gotta be high speed, but after that, I don't care.. I'm not gonna have cable TV or a landline phone, so it can be on any medium..

    Any suggestions?

i got sbc business internet. it's fast, and they're helpful. if you're getting standard instead of business, sbc has a special - $19.95 a month and free modem http://www02.sbc.com/DSL_new/content...952P192180B0S0

I don't know if you can get it in LA, but in the SFV (Studio City) you can get internet access, cable/tivo, and phone with nation wide LD for about $120-$150. I don't remember the company off hand, but I can ask him about it.
You'll get more with a kind word and a 2 by 4 then you'll get with just a kind word.

Don't know if you have Comcast (cable) in your area, but in my area (San Francisco), they just upgraded and now provide 4.5Mbps down and 420Kmbs up. The download speed is almost impossible to get from DSL unless you're within about a mile of the phone company's switching center... DSL is distance sensitive, while cable is not. And for us, the upload speed is crucial since we're constantly uploading video files and other high-bandwidth stuff that used to take twice as long when it was 256K up.

You can also check out broadbandreports.com which is pretty good about telling you what options are available in your area (and how far you are from the phone CO, so you can know how fast your DSL will be)

We have SBC T1 at the office and it's great. I can't remember the last time we experienced downtime and the dl and ul speeds never leave me wanting.

I have Verizon DSL at home because it's the only thing there is to get here. In the area I live and building I live, cable's not an option and there's no one else really set up to compete with Verizon. And as you can imagine I then find myself less than happy with Verizon's service. So I'd avoid them.

I had Cox Cable Internet when I lived in O.C. It kicked ass. Real fast. I would think they have it in the Gayest part of West Hollywood, that is where you're moving right? :high: LOL

Well it may not be the gayest part of West Hollywood now, but once he's living there...

Actually, my place with Don is in WeHo, and my new place it two streets south and three streets west...but that puts me about 10 meters south of the West Hollywood border, so technically, LA is now a little gayer and Weho is a little less.

although I left my number on all the appropriate walls.

I love Cox Cable. Plus the name is just to good to pass up. hehe

It's not expensive at all. I have my internet and phone for like, $60.00. I have Direct TV so I don't need their cable options but I hear that's great too.

That's not a bad price. I wonder which would be faster, the Adelphi cable or the SBC DSL? I'm paying something like $60 a month just for internet. I hate Adelphia. Although all my mail is now tied to them, so I guess I'm a little stuck.

We use Road Runner / Time Warner for everything & then have Vonage for the phone server (if you want Vonage - let me know, you get a free month if we refer someone )

The only problem with SBC - they have started to block port 25 so make sure your web host offers an alternative, else that could delay some emails.
