I Wonder? 1-800 Number Owners - How Much Do They Cost You?

    Per month in total?

Right now we're looking at getting a plan that costs $5.00 per month plus $0.085 per call.

Is the a good rate or should that number be lower?

What provider are you using for your current 800 number too?

    Regards,

    Lee

i think i pay $11 a month plus a flat fee of $0.11 per call from anywhere in NA.

But i would definitely not recommend my provider. He hardly ever returns my calls and whenever i want to make a change to my menu (ie. add a new menu/category) i have to call him and ask him to do it. I can record the greetings, but that's all.

hmmmm....i guess that's what i get for being cheap and finding the cheapest plan out there

I aquired my 800 number in 1990 as part of this multi-level marketing effort I toyed with briefly. My 800 number was from a now no longer existing company called TelecomUSA. At this time there was not yet an 877 toll free area code.

Then in the 1990s MCI bought TelecomUSA.

By the mid 90s I was behind in the bills, plus I didn't really use it, so I called the number of my bill to disconnect it. This number took me to MCI customer service. Unfortunately, when I called MCI customer service, they could not locate any of my account information. The invoices I was receiving were a mystery to them. Essentially one hand of the company had no clue as to what the other was doing. I eventually just gave up.

I have not paid a bill in years. Every month, I get another bill and a threatening disconnect notice. However the years pass by, and the thing never gets turned off.

So I still have this de facto free 1 800 that goes into my apartment.

This is a good example of why not to buy MCI stock, and illustrates how the company could let its CEO and others rob them blind.

besides a reasonable monthly fee, we paid per minute on incoming calls. when i had a very chatty woman answering our phones, that 4 cents or whatever it was per minute got surprisingly huge

That's what I'm afraid of LOL I just said to Lee I'm going to have to have everything set to take orders quickly and to get the people off the phone as soon as possible until we're making a steady flow of money LMAOPIP

The funny thing is, I'm the chatty one and the line is on my desk HAHAHAHAHA

Mine is about $4.99 per month. 100 incoming minutes are included every month and each additional minute is 4.9 cents.
You'll get more with a kind word and a 2 by 4 then you'll get with just a kind word.

wow...i can't believe you guys are getting such great rates!

Well, could it be that your 1800 lines basically connect to your office number?

Because ours is a 1800 voicemail box. So when someone dials the 1800 number, they're directed to a voicemail box where they can leave a message. It's not directed to our office number. That's all we needed it for anyway.

We have a couple different services.

For our tollfree, we pay 2.9 cents/minute, US and 10 cents/min from Canada. We have a total of about 6 tollfree lines that spell various things (4-cuties, boyfunk, 4-18west, etc) and as long as we bill over $3/month, there is no minimum.

The actual provider is Qwest, resold by Unitel, resold by Cognigen, resold by some multilevel person. It amazes me that I can get a rate of under 3 cents a minute and there are 3 layers of resellers, but when I go to Qwest directly, the rate is considerably higher.

We also have a "follow-me" number through Ureach.com. This will ring up to 4 numbers simultaneously or sequentially (as in, home/office/cell/etc), takes faxes and voicemails, and can route calls by time of day, day of week, etc. All settings can be changed by touch tone phone or from the web. It's considerably more expensive (about 11 cents/minute) but is useful for when we're traveling or that sort of thing.

or you can get a phone number from your phone company, and have it remote call forwarded to your regular box.

We use / resell for Freedom Voice. A pretty good company but they offer a virtual office type system. It is really good & I do like it. I can place the callers on hold, transfer them to someone else, etc. Plus the plan we have - we can use it as a fax number as well.

If you just need a generic toll-free number, check out Vonage. We use Vonage at home for VoIP & it is great. Cheap too - plus they offer 800 services as well. (Oh and if you want Vonage for home - let me know, if we refer you, we get two free months and you get a month free )

    We are with ATT

    Hi Lee.

We are using ATT&T for our 888 number. the base monthly cost is $10 plus tax for 2 numbers and we pay about $.06 a minute. Rate change based how how much the lines are used.
