Google Blocking Advertising On Certain Words?

    Greetings:

I've noticed something strange with Google the past 3 days:

Go do a search for "twink" or "twinks". No ads showing up at all, including none of mine. I first noticed this when I saw my traffic going down from Google and started investigating.

"gay twink" and "gay twinks" show ads though.

Do a search for "sex". No ads...

There are a bunch of other words that I've found as well that aren't having ads show up.

Now, is Google starting to filter which words they'll allow ads to show up for? Is there a bug? I don't know, and I've seen nothing from Google about it either.

Needless to say, something's going on........

But none of them are paid spots... no adwords campaigns coming up at all.

I suspect that like a lot of other ad networks they're starting to play the game where certain words and phrases could be construed as non-adult. So they're not going to display adult sites in the ads.

Actually, seems to me I've had this problem with some of my campaigns at google too.

As for the term "twinks" they're probably applying their abritary "it's slang rule".

For "sex" they're probably applying the good ol "it's not necessarily adult" rule.

I remember 2 years ago when they stopped all adult ads for the term "gay", they do this all the time, stop certain keywords if they decide they are too general. I bet if you had a nonadult site advertising under the keyword twink would still work.

    cheers,

Interesting that "sex" causes same result, but "Virtual Sex" has full ads...

You do realize by 'gay' I mean a man who has sex with other men? IntenseCash.com's Avatar

They have been doing this for quite some time now but like you noticed twinks will not bring up any results. If you put in twink's though it will come up. If you search "straight boys" adult sites come up but if you search "straight guys" nothing comes up. It makes no sense at all.

Perhaps you are traveling through another dimension, a dimension not only of sight and sound, but of mind--- a journey into a wondrous land whose boundaries are that of imagination. That's the signpost up ahead--- your next stop---.

Yes, you guys are right. If your keywords are too general so that non-porn-searching people or kids could see the results, then no advertised results are served. Likewise, I didn't even think you could buy a word like "bears," I thought you had to sexualize it or gay it up.

Also, I recently learned that even in the organic results, it's very difficult for a porn site to get a good ranking for a non-pornographic phrase. I'm still trying to figure this one out because for ages I could get nowhere with ranking for "hairy men," then a lot of the sites that ranked for "hairy men" had nothing to do with porn, now porn sites are back in the listings. I notice this changed within the last couple of Google updates.

    cheers
