    Taking the summer off ?

I usually take a long summer break, do the regular updates to my site, and basically that's it. There's usually enough momentum, rebillers, traffic to keep things at a fairly constant level.

I worked one summer and it seemed so futile. I pumped out feeder sites, did the link list thing, ... actually got some really decent traffic but after all that work, I was no better off that summer than when I took the long breaks. It seems that people just don't seem to buy that much porn. Their off buying stuff for their yards, pets, children, buying new cars, moving, going back to school, all those things that they put off in the colder months.

Has anyone else had this experience ?

the name for this within the industry is "summer slowdown". there's less traffic in the summer, but if you spend your time playing with stuff for more search engine hits, you can combat this.

i don't see it as futile to work a little harder to keep your income up instead of losing 15 - 25% of it to kids being off college and parents going on vacation with the kids.

on the other hand, if you like taking the summer off and can afford to, why not?

This is something I'm still considering... should I take july and august off and leave everything totally at the stage it is going to be on June 30th... or should I work at least once every 3 days...

I'm quite sure signups and rebills will drop if I don't, but I haven't got a clue as to how much, but on the other hand... when I was just a regular porn user I purchased membership mostly on summer... cause that's when I'm all horny and totally thinking of sex 24/7

Have to think about it yet

It's not so much that I really want to take the time off, it's just that it kind of sucks you in when you don't see the results you want. You spend more time, get more frustrated, spend more money, (repeat the viscous cycle). In a way, you try to fight something that is built in -- slow summers are a natural part of this business cycle.

For some, sitting out a summer is not possible. I understand that. But for others, closing or just maintaining makes alot more sense. For example, take tourist towns with ski areas or beaches. Sure, people still want to see mountains or they want to walk on the beach or just look at it on the off season. Unfortunately, most ski shops and most summer beach shops close for the season. It just makes more sense to prepare for the inevitable and go back into high gear when things start to pick up.

    dalimili,

If you take two months off and your average sponsor has a retention of 2-3 months, you could fine you return to a mess. Maybe you could compromise and just work a couple of days a week to at least keep some new sales coming in to replenish your rebilling pool.

I try to take a week or two off near the end of the summer to relax and re-charge -- for the last few years it usually ends up being the end of summer or postponed until sometime in the fall. Just the way things work out with schedules, rates and what not...

You know i can honestly say that i dont think we have experienced a 'summer slowdown' yet.

On the other hand, around Christmas sales tend to slow down drastically but, to off-set that, they also tend to increase in the first week or two of the New Year.

HAHA!! yeah, i'll prolly take a week off, if that. But then again, i have big plans ahead and so everything would be delayed if i took time off right now.

And the whole "summer slowdown" people talk about...well, just like Basschick said, if you work a little harder, you wont even notice it, and in fact, you may realize that you'll make more money than you did in the winter (depending on your product).

And anyway, what would i do with the whole summer if i took it off? I'd be bored outta my mind!!!
