Bulk e-mail script (but not for spam...really)

I've been using Bravenet for my newsletter mailing list and my renewal is coming up. Rather drop the servcice and handle it myself and I know there are plenty of scripts out there, but which one? Please let me know what you use.

Here's what I need:

Double opt-in, with the option to add someone to the list without double opt-in
Auto-sending of confirmation and welcome messages
Custom HTML e-mails
Can use MySQL or not
Easy to use...I am NOT a geek like desslock!
Did I mention free?

MajorDomo is by far one of the best listserves out there, but may be a bit on the geeky side.

Why not check out Mailman. It's GNU and has more webbased administration, so it might be of use to you:
http://www.gnu.org/software/mailman/

It's used by a lot of HUGE sites, so you know it's scalable and secure.

You could probably get your host to install it for you if you ask really really nice.

Thanks guys. Mailman looks great but way out of my comfort zone. I could ask my host to install it, though I always seem to be bugging them about something! But Dada looks great, very functional and I think I can handle installation (as long as I RTFM!))

I have my own mail server, and we run Majordomo as double opt in for my ownnewsletters. I have been considering selling this as a service to others. What are you guys paying now? Would anyone be interested? What is this even called??? Mailing list hosting?

Thinking purely for your own benefit id say no.

If you start letting everyone mail from YOUR server im pretty sure it would only be a matter of time before your server gets canned for spamming.
