WTF? What Happens When Your ISP Decides To Change Your IP Address?

You end up spending the whole day trying to reconfigure the wireless network

A whole day of work gone..Thanks to Mindspring!

Luckily though, the fencing guys finished up today so i did get to do some chores around the house and, watching the puppy run around the garden like crazy for the first time without her collar was a huge plus

    Regards,

why a whole day? your internal network should be setup on a private subnet(eg, 127.0.0.1) using your dsl router or windows pc with ICS setup as the default gateway. It should only take 2 minutes to update the IP info on the router or win pc.

sounds like you have a hack job setup for your network, tsk tsk!!!

i worked at a place where there were about 1,000 scripts with IP addresses hardcoded into them. our ISP/bandwidth provider/whatever went out of business and we had to switch to another company. i left the company shortly after that.

I have a wireless network at home too and it was a nightmare to get set up. But it has been a godsend for the past year. I just recently bought a new computer that is now the hub of the network and XP SP2 configured the entire network without any input from me. What a fucking relief!

    Luke,

It took the whole day because it wasnt just our web connection that got screwed up.

Our remote print services and office sharing apps were all in the mix too.

We actually tech support several times as well as using their online FAQs to no avial, eventually we called again and was told, oh yeah your ip address has changed LOL

Once we knew what the problem was the fix was relatively easy

    Regards,

    Lee

Now I wrote the dang IP down and put it my desk draw so I can compare right away.

Reconfiguring everything else was easy - it was the cable IP that screwed us up. I also think there was a lightening storm over night that did something to the equipment or reset it some how.

It's time to get a faster strong router anyway (any excuse to go shopping LOL)
