ohio anti-porn bill is over the top

    http://www.avn.com/index.php?Primary...tent_ID=226719

i don't even know where to begin! they want to make it 1952 all over, but no one can show plumbers butt or wear a cocktail dress showing cleavage. if you tap someone on the thigh, and you might be having a sexual thought, you could be guilty of sexual behavior.

    and forget bathing suits!

hey, bec - you're in ohio. got any more info on this for us?

Overall, this is a very bad bill. For one thing, it permits zoning regulation on a township-by-township basis, allowing township attorneys or their hirees to "abate [adult businesses] as a nuisance," and to thereafter sell the business' contents and apply the proceeds to their own attorney fees! (Can you say "Fifth Amendment taking"?)
An establishment may have other principal business purposes that do not involve the offering for sale, rental, or viewing of materials exhibiting or describing specified sexual activities or specified anatomical areas and still be categorized as an adult bookstore, adult novelty store, or adult video store. The existence of other principal business purposes does not exempt an establishment from being categorized as an adult bookstore, adult novelty store, or adult video store so long as one of its principal business purposes is offering for sale or rental, for some form of consideration, such materials that exhibit or describe specified sexual activities or specified anatomical areas
This all just sounds really odd and off the wall to me. So if a small town in Ohio decided they wanted to, they could close down their local blockbuster and sell everything in it? One of their principal business purposes is renting out R rated movies, the majority of which show at least boob.

Obviously that isn't going to happen, but I could see this bill being abused in some crazy ways.

By the way, since when is cleavage considered partial nudity?? It's kind of off-topic, but why are public indecency laws still so sexist anyway? Don't women practicly foam at the mouth at the idea that they could be arrested for going topless, but a man wouldn't be? I know I would if I was a woman.

The Bill is obviously not going to pass but is a shining example how our U.S. government is no longer operating by the will of the people, but instead the interest of those few in power.

Notice how our pro war Republican government, which our troops are fighting for, and support 100%, is now closing bases? Interesting how nationwide they are quoting about 30,000 military and civilian jobs will be lost due to the proposed cuts... yet some select states would GAIN jobs... oddly enough Texas is cut out to gain 8,000 military jobs from the bases closing (SOURCE). And at the Iraq war costing $177million a day, about 5.4 Billion a month (SOURCE) Yet the savings from closing all these bases closing is a mere $5Billion a YEAR. (SOURCE) It would take nearly 100 years to recoupe the cost of the Iraq war.. that's if we stopped the war today!

I think porn in Ohio is the last thing the lawmakers there should be focused on at the moment. At least it's a legal source of income! If the base closures occur Ohio will be losing big time as the following bases will be closing (SOURCE) :

Army National Guard Reserve Center, Mansfield
Army National Guard Reserve Center, Westerville
Defense Finance and Accounting Service, Dayton
Mansfield Lahm Municipal Airport Air Guard Station
    Navy-Marine Corps Reserve Center, Akron
    Navy-Marine Corps Reserve Center, Cleveland
Parrott U.S. Army Reserve Center, Kenton
    U.S. Army Reserve Center, Whitehall

It's unclear how many jobs will be lost in Ohio needless to say the restructuring will be taxing on the local economy and personnel involved. With transfers from other states to Ohio bases some say Ohio might gain 241 jobs (SOURCE) Isn't it odd a porn board is discussing Ohio’s real issues, while Ohio politicians attack porn? I think it's easier for them to divert the issues to a heated topic like porn instead of facing the real issues like their economy and livelihood of their people. My .00002cents :francais:

Actually, this is the first I've heard of this bill.

Want some more statistics Ohio needs to pay more attention to?

How about families in Ohio are filing bankruptcy at the rate of one every 5 minutes. If that isn't filling lawyer coffers, tell me what else is ... it's at least $600 minimum to file.

Cleveland just had the dubious honor of being listed in the top 10 poorest cities in the country. Anyone care to speculate what that's doing to our crime rate? Wouldn't take much imagination to figure out how much of it ISN'T showing up on the 6 o'clock news.

What are they doing to fill city coffers? Aside from laying off fire and police personnel, they're sending around folks from the "Housing Authority" ... they "inspect" your property and send off nasty letters telling you to fix such and such by a certain date or face penalties and fines. My street is full of drug houses, boarded over drug houses, several burnt out carcasses of houses (with kids playing around them daily), and I got a notice to paint my peeling porch column or else. I'm still fighting the urge to call up the idiot and tell them to go fuck themselves, that'll I'll paint the damn column when they clean up the properties of those that DON'T take care of their homes and make this neighborhood safe for those of us trying to live here and raise families.

Ok -- done venting -- for the moment.

One more confirmation that I was right in leaving Ohio many, many years ago.

I agree there are so many more things that deserve this attention. But then again I am still trying to figure out how gay marriage is a threat to the "American way".

Bec that really sucks! I always envisioned you as this beautiful soul gliding through Berkely or San Francisco... no the conditions you described. Just goes to show good people are all around.

You know here on the Gold Coast Australia what the local government does is have inspectors go out and overvaluate properties, so you have to pay more in taxes for the properties value.... not only that.... they BACKDATE the valuations, in some cases 4 or 5 years... so one day you get a bill for $5,000 a year valuation for 5 years which equals a $25,000 home tax bill!
Governments are necessary, but can really suck sometimes.

Bec I can see why Ohio might want to divert it's issues to porn... maybe porn is the reason for all of Ohios problems? Maybe after all the porn is gone, things will be back to normal there?
