Top Source for Gay Porn Studio News?

I've gotten two emails recently from JRL Publications claiming they are the "Number One Source For Info And Entertainment On The Gay Adult Film Industry". JRL's main business has been compiling surveys of DVD sales from brick-and-mortar stores that get sent to gay porn studios. They just recently added a web presence.

JRL published this list of gay adult industry sites and how they rank according to Alexa. Alexa ranks the popularity of websites starting from Yahoo at number "1", followed by Google (#3 most popular website), AOL, MSN, eBay, ect. Out of the gazillions of websites on the Internet, being ranked in the 100,000's is not bad, but JRL should do a little more research before making claims of being Number One.

Lavender Lounge, home of Lavender Lounge Blog, is to date ranking at around 57,000th in Alexa, which makes it FAR more popular than JRL's website. Granted, Alexa compiles these stats from the number of surfers who have installed the Alexa toolbar to their browser, and I've never met anyone who actually HAS an Alexa toolbar, but the industry regards it as at least a good estimate of site rankings.

I'm glad I got to see how Lavender Lounge stacks up against other sites in the adult industry. Although it makes me wonder why I kiss people's ass to get my sites listed on sites that rank LOWER than mine. Shouldn't they be kissing MY ass to get listed on MY site?

May I ask a question? I thought that Alexa only ranks from those using their toolbar. Am I wrong?

I admit that I don’t know much about JRL Publications, but a friend of mine that own's a studio LOVES JRL's site and traffic. Their sales and traffic have been steadily going up each month for being listed on their site and their newsletter.

Tyrain, you are correct. Alexa's traffic rankings are based on the usage patterns of Alexa Toolbar users over a rolling 3 month period.

I encourage everybody to completely ignore Alexa data. The results are simply not relevant.

Most of the statistical data is collected from Asian websurfers - and considering that I can go look at my site stats and aggregate all the page views from .jp .tw and other countries, that accounts for a tiny percentage.

It is simply unreprestative.

For example - Alexa reports that surfers to my site also surfed japan.videoland.com.tw - which is rediculous. I am sure all the surfers on aol.com and comcast.net (my most popular domains) are hanging out on a .tw website.

www.friskyfans.org is 145,907 - which per these results says that my site is more popular then JasonCurious, and slightly less popular then cy***mag.

What matters at the end of the day is your revenue - now am I making on par, higher or lower then those other sites? - that is really the question.
