    Actually Tony

Actually Tony (Is that what you like to be called?)

I would love to hear your take on it.

I know a lot about Apple History, and read about Rob Janoff's designs for Steve, but I have never met anyone that actually had something to do with it.

So if you don't mind, I would love to hear the actual story behind the rainbow apple.

But, even if it is not true, you can surely admit that the story of Turing makes a good one!

oh god - me and my fucking big "know it all mouth" (but I do - honestly)

you probably know more about it than I - even though I wasn't around at the birth of the symbol in the mid 70's - I got to meet Janoff later in the early '80's after I had joined Chiat Day's SF office (just prior to moving to LA)

We were beginning to work with branding the company at that time leading up to the launch of the world famous "lemmings" ad that ran during the '84 super bowl. The one of the only ads that ever advertised a product that didn't exist and never showed the product - that's the kind of balls that Jay Chiat and Lee Clow, creative director had back then.

    see attached movie http://www.apple-history.com/1984.html

It was a fertile time of plenty of $$$ and company growth - and I was bouncing back and forth like a ping pong ball between Chiat/Day/Bright and Associates and Saul Bass/Herb Yager and Associates (the AT&T "death star" design team) - needless to say - I was burning the candle but was young -

Personally, I hate the new AT&T symbol and think the crack pots that ruined the mark deserve to refund the money they were paid - they used the "reverse" symbol (there is no such thing as a negative highlight) which now shows on the new symbol - EERGHHH make me angry - that took so long to figure out way back when

    but that's all off subject

here's a pic of me at the Chiat/Day Christmas Party in '84 when I look like (or should I say) Borat looks amazingly like me!

god! I was SO full of myself then - some things don't change...

LOL. I am not sure I will ever be able to watch one of your videos without thinking of that picture! Thanks!

The lemmings ad was great, but my favorite of all time still has to be the year before with 1984.

I have been all Apple ever since.

Someday at a convention you will have to share a beer with me and tell me stories. :goof:

I think the weird thing was how hard people worked and how hard they partied... and yes there was plenty of booze and cocaine to keep things buzzing - but that was 1979 - 82 - 84 - people stopped all that and started getting "healthy" with colonics and sushi and golds gym memberships... me in particular

all of that was left behind until..... flash forward twenty years to the porn industry in LA and all the cocaine, drugs and booze being consumed by the porn people we came in contact with - I thought, how absurd, how dated, how STUPID - hadn't anyone learned anything yet about the negative effects of all this heavy duty abuse? And, its still going on so I'm told - on the sets we were on too - nauseating and incredibly unprofessional!

I HATE tweekers with a passion - they always fuck everything up! and tend to be high strung and chaotic and have nasty and viscous gossip driven tounges. I think crystal ruins anyone who touches it too. We've lost several people to suicide from crystal abuse - sad waste of talent and potential.

We like happy people, healthy people, people that do things and have good ideas - those are the kinds of people we get along with - and there are plenty of good, solid, brilliant thinkers around us - couldn't be successful if we didn't - Jay Chiat always said "hire 'em when they're young - right out of school - full of energy and good ideas - and when they're cheap!" - of course, you always need some sensible old farts around (like me) to keep everyone on track
