I'm gonna guess they decided they needed someone who had worked hard for the gay community, stood up for our rights, was a major champion of human rights in general and had been a figure prominant in the community.

But then they just said "No, fags are shallow, stupid, morally bankrupt, obsessed with people who are famous for being famous, platic and only there if there's something in it for them", and found Paris Hilton.

Usually Pride committees pick celebrity grand marshalls that have been involved for years, decades or lifetimes working for glbt causes.

I like Paris. She's got the brains enough to marry a billionaire. She's not going to get her fortune until her mom is gone and her mom is young. So hats' off to her for using her celebrity and social status to snag a greek billionaire. Not bad.

She's just a kid with alot of time and money to burn and no one to have to answer to. I think most people would act the same way.

How is she supporting the community? She's getting paid a heap of cash to sit in a car in a parade for an hour.

How is this going to educate straight people?

I don't get how having America's Favorite Bimbo in the LA parade is going to teach anyone anything.

If she is on the news even when her dog is missing, what does that tell you? I think they made a good choice. We will get more attention since she is "hot" right now.

And that teaches people what? That we can afford the very cheapest?

Well at least she's doing it. Try offering George Bush the role.

my point, curious bunny, is that gay pride day isn't a public relations day for straight people, it's a day that's for US.

the grand marshall of the parade should be someone who at least has done SOMETHING for the community other than be trashier.

At a time where glbt causes are finally getting attention they deserve, a time when corporations are reviewing their rights and protections, a time where states are contemplating gay marriage issues, a time when alot of straight people are noticing that gay issues involve basic human rights... in this extremely important time for gay rights and issues, who does L.A. pride pick to represent their community ?

Paris Hilton and her mother ...

I mean, it's their parade and all but really, this is just mind boggling :mental:

I like the fact they're well put together, confident, and don't give a shit what people think.

The Gay "scene" for the most part is shallow.. that's why I'm not part of it, but I don't think being shallow is the reason they picked them. My .002 cents worth :high:

But a friend of mine is convinced it's an act and one day she's going to come out and say the whole stupid thing was a big joke and that she's put one over on the world.

I dunno. I'm not really that bitter towards her. I just posted this to entertain Jasun because he hates her so much.

i think we have more in common that we think (Paris and us). Lets see...We're both misunderstood. We're definitely both controversial. We're both careless as to what people think about us. We do what we want to, when we want to. We both represent fighters, who in the face of opposition keep doing what we're doing. Lets face it people....we're both obsessed with vanity and wealth. And lets give her some credit guys...she has become world famous over night. And in my opinion, no stupid person has EVER become rich for no reason. Acting stupid is totally different from being stupid. She's much smarter than she leads people to believe. She knows exactly what she's doing and she's doing it well otherwise she wouldn't still be going strong like she is. She's very conscious of the American media (and American public in general), and she's using it to her maximum advantage. Like she said on Letterman, she's a "business woman". And I think I agree with her.

hey, i live in l.a. and i didn't get to vote.

if paris hilton wasn't famous for being rich, she probably wouldn't be famous at all. there are plenty of more attractive women, with better bodies and much better clothes sense.

this isn't american fighters day nor american difference day - it's GAY PRIDE, and she just ain't gay nor is she particularly active in the community or supportive. just what people in l.a. need - another way to make us seem like the kind of vapid celeb hunters that would elect an movie star for govern... oh, drat!
