If you're referring to "American" meaning "uneducated," then I agree with you. I can't believe how many people are TERRIBLE spellers!

I mean, come on. Literacy is important, people!

I think the net has lead to a much more casual way of writing, but not sure its all that bad. People just type or chat the way they talk for the most part, who cares that much about watching every word you say or type. Unless I am going to get a gold star on my paper or something I see little need to take things to far.

Now I understand writing is what you do for a living, so I can see how you would see this differently.
